Drive in movies are on life support and the few remaking will probably be gone this year. All the movies are now being distributed digitally and are projected using digital projectors. The few remaining drive in theaters can’t afford to buy the new projectors. The day’s OS showing reels of 35mm film are gone forever. RIP drive in movies.

Bob,
The Cape’s sole drive-in movie has made the switch to digital. It is always filled and also runs giant flea markets both weekend days to supplement its income. People on vacation love the chance to bring their kids to a drive-in, pajamas and all.

Of course you are living in a summer tourist area. It’s a nostalgic thing to do on vacation. The rest of the country has moved on. Many new cars are coming equipped with WiFi so you can watch a movie on your iPad while inside the car. Shortly, autonomus driving cars will become a reality and you will be able to watch a movie while the car takes you to your destination. Science fiction will soon be science fact.

Bob,
I would love to connect my car to the drive-it network then just sit back and relax or even sleep.

minicapt,
Do you ever go to the drive-in?
When the Dennis drive-in was open, just a few miles from me, I used to go all summer. It was a small drive-in with woods all around. We had to slather ourselves with bug spray and burn mosquito coils.
We used to bring a thermos of drinks, cheese, crackers and a few more adult snacks. It was great fun.
