   In the late 1970s the flight school where I instructed bought a used mini main frame computer to do some kind of accounting work. The woman who was the office manager used to call the thing, Algernon. She never mentioned the song but told me Flowers for Algernon was the title of a book. I thought is was a cute and funky name for the computer.

     It is a sad book. You might recognize it by its movie title: Charley.
