Happy Boxing Day!
Yesterday was a wonderful Christmas Day. We opened presents, played games and had a fantastic dinner and a delicious dessert. I got an amazing present, A David Ortiz commemorative bat. It is beautiful. It is also heavy. David’s stats are etched on the bat as is an outline of David in his characteristic pose: fingers pointing to heaven after a home run. I was totally surprised and totally thrilled. It will be displayed here in the den right near the Fenway Park brick, a replica of the one laid on the concourse at Fenway which says Kathleen Ryan Peace Corps Ghana 1969-1971. It too was a gift from my friends.
I have errands to do today. I guess it’s back to the real world, far too quickly I think.
This is short as I’m taking a mini-vacation of mostly today and all of tomorrow. I’ll be back on Thursday.

Beautiful gingerbread houses!
The storm Urd is passing by right now but so far I notice it very little. It blows from the right direction so it is almost absolutely still in my garden, it will change slightly during the night though so if a gust hit the cottage it might wake me up 🙂
My christmas vacation is over for this time so back to work I’ll go tomorrow, I really don’t want to but I didn’t win the lottery last week either 🙂

It is so good of your cottage to spare you from the worst of storms. Here, I hate the ones from the north as they blow so hard and brings lots of rain or snow.
I have to go to my neighbor’s tonight, and it is the last thing I want to do. I rather do nothing and sit around in my comfy clothes, but I’ll go.

The Gingerbread houses look awesome as is the baseball bat. The day after the holiday always seems like a huge let down. It’s almost as much of a let down as the entire month of January. Especially this upcoming January. I can’t think of one good thing that happens in January.
Boxing Day is another left over relic from our friends in England. I wonder when they are going to officially exit from the EU. Maybe January 20th would be a fitting day. 🙂

We had a great time building those houses. It was the best kit I’ve even found.
Today is quiet. I didn’t see all that many cars on the roads. It is a good day to do nothing.
January was just the bridge to February and vacation. We had to survive the four dull weeks of January and the first two in February.
It will take two years before they can exit.
Boxing Day has never been a celebration here which is odd as so many other former British colonies celebrate it. I like the idea of a day off after Christmas, a day when nothing is expected.

I looked it up. Boxing day is the day after Christmas and was started to give the servants a present or a gratuity.
I think our founders wanted to get away from the British class system and killed Boxing Day. However, slaves didn’t count because they were not considered human.

I knew about the boxes to servants and now it has spread to all tradesmen with whom you did business.
Massachusetts recognizes Boxing Day but not as a legal holiday.

Hi Kat,
Love the gingerbread houses. You all did a great job.
I’m recovering today too. Sometime in the middle of the night I decided that I was coming down with a cold. I’m sure the Christmas festivities impaired my immune system. 🙂 I hung around the house in my pajamas until noon when I decided to dress for the day. I chose sweat pants and a long sleeve tee shirt. 🙂
The dogs had to be satisfied with short walks around the outside of the house. They were okay with it. I think they were tired, too.

Thanks! We all felt those were the best we had made.
I’m glad you nipped this in the bud (I love Don Knotts!). Lying around the house, feeling warm and comfortable cure several ills.
