Thanks for the tribute to the Mad Dog Leon. As you can probably guess, his passing affects me much more than the death of another recently departed singer/songwriter. I believe if you look up the entry for “eccentric” in the dictionary, you’ll find Mr. Russell’s photo right next to it. I’m sharing something from one of those albums that sort of got lost along the way, a collaboration with his then-wife, Mary McCreary, “The Wedding Album” (1976).

im6,
I could never let this go without posting. The sad thing, though, is I seem to be posting tributes far too often.
Thanks for this as it is a song I don’t know.
Anyone with his voice can be as eccentric as he chooses.

The sequence of the passing of those who shaped our lives is becoming very tedious. Music is thematic to the rythmn of our day to day. You two know I was smitten by “You want it darker” and right now I am spinning with Steven Wilson’s “Happiness III”
We are not talking politics here in Mexico, but it cuts when you hear that the service staff at this very expensive all inclusive resort are paid $4 a day – they won’t even pay by the hour. We arrived intending to be generous but it shocks when you talk to a waiter who tells tales of the American from Missouri telling him he could make $800 a day as a waiter in his restaurant if he can get to the USA. He hopes, it is false
All he wants to do is work and protect his wife, three girls and a granddaughter.

My Dear Hedley,
I see the same issues in Ghana. Anything handmade is inexpensive while factory goods are out of reach. At the hotel in Bolga where we stayed for nearly two weeks, we gave all the staff tips when we left. They were so helpful and friendly. I think we gave them the equivalent of three days salary. It wasn’t much to us, but it meant so much to them.
Like you, I hate to read about the passing of anyone who was part of our musical lives.

Thanks for posting these, Kat. Jamie and I were big fans. He was playing in a small venue near us just two days before our anniversary and I was looking forward to hearing him play A Song for You. Alas. I never got a chance to see him live.

You are most welcome, Erin. I’m so sorry you didn’t get to see him. I love concerts because of the interactions between the audience and performers. It always seems as if the singers sound better when the audience is right there appreciating them.
