Gnu,
I haven’t ever heard Lindsey Stirling before this. Her music is amazing.

I always found it interesting that the old SiFi movies had a sexual connotation. The female character was always pursued by the aliens to be rescued by the hero. Or, the female character tries to reason with the Asian to save the earth. I imagine there must be X rated SiFi videos somewhere on the Internet. π

Bob,
I saw it as the woman being the weaker sex who needed to be rescued. She often fell and when she screamed, he hand always covered her mouth. Look at the original War if the Worlds. She screamed through a good part of the movie.

minicapt,
I just saw that movie in the last few weeks. I think it was on TCM and it was the host who said she was Sally Fields mother. I didn’t know her mother had been an actress.
