minicapt,
I have friends who refused to allow their kids to play with guns or any other weapons. They and I are of the Vietnam generation, but we are also a generation which played with guns. We watched westerns where the good guys had pistols and rifles. Gun belts were on many Christmas lists. We got older and didn’t play with guns anymore but we saw the National Guard on campus wounding and killing students. I wish I had these statistics way back when to show taking away guns makes little difference. Their grandchildren play with light sabers now whose purpose is to kill or maim the same as real guns and those post war children’s guns.
My country is a country of so much gun violence. Average people refuse to abrogate their right to bear arms. Don’t blame the gun, blame the shooter is their motto.
I have a nephew who collects guns and has a permit to carry. I find it all a bit scary. Sometimes I listen to him and find him scary. I am a liberal, and I think he finds me a threat to his right to bear arms, to protect himself and even to shoot if he has to.
There is nothing I can say to dissuade him.

I, on the other hand, have a real sabre with which to play with my nephews.
