Last year on Gaudete Sunday , Father Jerry told me he was retiring after being our shepherd for over 30 years.
This morning I bounced in to the Chapel and was told that the Church had stopped recognizing Gaudete Sunday some forty years ago.
Thank goodness I can rely on Kat and KTCC and the arrival of Gaudete Sunday and Maddy Prior and Steeleye Span and one of my special days during the season of Advent
Thank you Kat, I love this tradition down the KTCC

I can’t understand why they stopped recognizing Gaudete. I remember the altar had poinsettias and was bright with Christmas. The priest wore rose vestments instead of purple because today is so close to Christmas.
Nice tradition!
We sang our second Christmas concert today, unfortunately not this song though I would like to sing it, but we added a mining song which was sung by your favorite trio. In this region you can sing mining songs at any time of the year.

My Dear Hedley,
I too love this tradition.

It is a day to be joyful!

Birgit – are there any seasonal mining songs ?

Hedley, good question, no song comes into my mind, I’ll have to think about it.

Birgit,
Are you talking about mines? I never heard of mining songs. When I looked it up, every answer was about mines.

Oops, wrong translation, should be miner’s songs. Former coal mining region here.

Birgit,
I guessed that might be what you mean. I didn’t realize you lived in a mining region.

I post this (by Maddy Prior and Steeleye Span) on my facebook page every year. Very nice tune.

Jay,
I think it is a beautiful song. Good idea posting it. My entries also get posted automatically on Facebook.
