In case anyone is interested, the reason Bette is being spotlit today is because I badgered Kat to celebrate Miss M’s 70th birthday. Hard to believe she’s a septuagenarian. As Bette has been known to say, “I look good.” And she does. When I forwarded Kat a copy of this song, I told her it was my first introduction to Bette and it remains my very favorite of her songs now, some 40+ years later. To keep the party going, I’m sharing an amazing video I only recently discovered. I don’t think I’ve shared it before. I did a search of KTCC and nothing came up, but if I have, please forgive me. I think it’s worth repeating. It’s from a 1970 appearance on The David Frost Show, before she even had a recording contract.

im6,
I didn’t need all that much badgering as I am a Bette fan. Her concert was one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. The crowd was wild for Bette.
This is amazing. Her voice is strong and so lovely. I expect recording contracts were waiting for her at home.
Why weren’t they all standing?

Here it is December 1. Christmas is only 24 days away. Not too early for a holiday song from the haole from Hawaii.

im6,
I did notice she had been born in Hawaii.
This is such a fun version, and I love the make chorus, a nice touch. Great album cover!

An excellent song and reminds me that Cliff turned 75 on October 14 which somehow was missed. Here he is with the Shads, also asking if you would care to dance.

For an upbeat version, I prefer the original by Bobby Freeman. The Shadow’s spin on it reminds me of the old Pat Boone and Ricky Nelson covers of songs by black artists ’cause it’s one of the “whitest” songs I’ve ever heard. That’s really not a put down of Sir Cliff because, as you know, I’m a big fan of “Summer Holiday.”

im6,
I mentioned to Hedley that it was Summer Holiday which caused me to garner one of my three strikes from Blogger. They took the song down.

My Dear Hedley,
I would have missed Bette but im6 reminded me. He calls them birthday alerts. Put yourself on the alerter list. I could use the help.
I don’t remember hearing this before now. I do know Cliff Richards but somehow not this song. I’m happy now.
On the old Blog, the one that got annihilated, I played Summer Holiday and was told I was violating copyright laws. It was one of my three strikes before the bomb is dropped.

Kat – Naughty Cliff – still I bought 75 at 75 and have been merrily singing along with the great man as I cruise up and down Telegraph Road. I never tire of Summer Holiday – neither the song nor the movie. But my all time Cliff song has the be The Young Ones.

Probably should have mentioned that today is Woody Allen’s 80th birthday – sorta cute that he shares the day with Bette

MDH,
I’m not sure I would have thought to use cute.

Well I did read that little Bette will be in a Woody movie

MDH,
I am highly skeptical.

Bette and Woody starred as a married couple in the terrible 1991 movie, “Scenes from a Mall,” which was directed by Paul Mazursky.
