Here’s the “Shadows & Light” live version of “In France…”:
Jaco Pastorius, bass, and Pat Metheny, guitar, play on this live cut; it was Max Bennett and Larry Carlton on the track you played. Both good; each different.
One thing that has always bugged me on the “Hissing” recording : Joni’s guitar opens the cut, but when the drums come in her guitar is pulled almost out of the mix for a while; on the live recording it is there straight thru…
I think the songs on Hissing have been overlooked, and this is one which deserves far more acclaim.
They are certainly different and I prefer the one from Shadows and Light. It has more vibrancy which I didn’t expect given how much the other song has.
