As much as I like seeing Darlene Love get the credit for this song, unfortunately it’s one of the many Phil Spector productions she didn’t get credit for at the time. The song was released in 1962 by Bobb B. Soxx (Bobby Sheen) and the Blue Jeans. The song, of course, is from the (now banned) Walt Disney film, “Song of the South.”

Incidentally, Darlene has a new album being released in September titled, improbably, “Introducing Darlene Love.” Introducing? She’s only been singing for nearly 60 years, is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has won an Oscar and has released numerous solo albums. I guess the idea is to “introduce” her to a whole new audience with tunes by Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Webb, and more. Who knows? All I know is that’s the most wacked title in a long while. But the first song, “Forbidden Nights,” from the album (written by Elvis) is a B.L.A.S.T.:

      im6,
This came from an album I have called The Best of Darlene Love. It was released in 1992 so she is now getting credit.

I am as indignant as you about the title of that album. What a voice that woman still has!

I’ll miss her at Christmas. It might have been David’s tradition but it was mine to listen.
