“Be peaceful like a mountain. Be loving like a flower. Be wonderous like thunder.”

The doors and windows are open. The day isn’t cool but isn’t overwhelmingly hot either. We had a tremendous thunderstorm. It woke me up when the thunder cracked above my house which shook just a bit. I then heard the rain drops falling and beating against the window pane. They were my lullaby as I fell back to sleep. I woke to a sunny day. Everything is still wet but the sun will see to that.

When the breeze blows, I can hear drops of water falling off the leaves and hitting the ground as if in mimicry of a gentle summer rain. Earlier, the sun went away for just a bit and the thunder rolled but that was the storm’s last hurrah.

I have always loved summer rain. When I was kid, we ran in the rain and our clothes got soaking wet. We’d stop at every puddle and use our feet to whack the water. It spewed in wide circles. Along the curbside a river sometimes flowed. We’d walk through the river splashing as we went. The water ran fast to the sewer crate.

When the storm ended, we’d stay outside and let the sun dry us. It never took long. The sun always seems to make a speedy recovery after the rain.

Here in New England we have four distinct seasons, and it rains during all four of them; of course, in winter, if it’s cold enough snow falls instead of rain. I like to watch the snow fall, and I love the beauty of the untouched snow covering roads and yards.

We never went outside during a snow storm. It just didn’t have the siren call the summer rain had. It was, I think, because the snow stayed around a while, but the puddles and rivers from the summer rain disappeared quickly under the onslaught of the sun so we had to hurry.

I did watch the live time lightning maop a few times today and You had 196 lightnings every minute when it was as worst 🙂 Thunder is closing in here too so I have watched its way towards us and it will arrive sometime tonight. It’s nothing close to Your though so I think I’ll have my bedroom window open tonight, I’m pretty sure I’ll wake up if it arrives to my village 🙂

It is hot, hot, hot here today but a breeze is saving us from the worst heat. The strange thing is that the flies, who usually is nasty before thunder arrives didn’t bother me at all when we walked after I came home from work. I don’t mind though 🙂

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

      Christer,
Now the storm is over, and the sun is shining, but it still feels cool enough to be without the AC today. I was just outside filling the bird feeders and could feel the breeze. The deck imperfect for today.

I would hate the long fly season you have. Boxers have thin fur and Gracie would have bites all over. She even gets mosquito bites.

I hope work is going okay!!

      Have a wonderful evening!!!

      Spaceman,
I remember this song, a classic, and I can still sing along. This is the first time I have ever seen Johnny Rivers.

Two main seasons: warm rain and cold rain. Today we’ve had warm rain, quite boring, our current political media thunder storm, government vs. press and citizens, is more interesting but I’m afraid this storm will be over too soon and we’ll merkel another decade in lethargy. [Hint for the teacher: to merkel is an inofficial German verb.]

      Birgit,
Una Merkel was a movie star here, a character actress.

Ghana had wet and dry seasons. Politically they had a couple of coups but were stable even when they were happening. They never took out Peace Corps, a sign all was safe.

Here we have 14 candidates for the Republican nomination for president. I am not impressed by any of them. That there is another Bush is frightening!!

The large high pressure area has moved to the west of our area which has allowed a dip in the jet stream to almost reach the DFW metroplex. Light rain showers and isolated thunderstorms have erupted to our North, East and to the Northwest in the panhandle but totally dry and hot here. We only reached 99 degrees. 🙂

When I was a kid here in Dallas we always went out to play when the snow started felling because it didn’t happen that often nor did the white stuff stay around very long. We’ve had 75 degree days Christmas week and two feet of snow on New Year’s Day. The following week it was back into the 60s. It only happened once.

      Bob,
We just had that storm early this morning and none of the extras they had in Boston: the hail and the flooding. The breeze we had most of the day disappeared around 5 so I turned on the AC which had been off all day.

Wow, two feet in a single storm is huge. We don’t have all all too often though the last couple of years we’ve even managed three feet a couple of times. The plowed snow pile in Boston finally disappeared in July.

We have never had a Christmas in the 70’s, a couple in the 40’s and even one in the 50’s.

Right now we would kill for that kind of rain in Jersey. The humidity is down but it is still hot!

You nailed it in the last paragraph regarding snow vs. rain…

    Waving to make a breeze,

    Coleen

    • Coleen,
We were lucky here on the cape. A good portion of the state had high winds, hail and flooding. Trees came down, uprooted.

The day got warm by afternoon so the AC went back on. Today it is much nicer-no AC, and it is already almost 3.

Snow this year didn’t go away where it had been piled from plowing the city of Boston until July!!
