5 Comments on “Mdube aka The Lion Sleeps Tonight aka Wimoweh: Hans Theessink Band”
Dutch born guitarist, Austrian band, vocals by Zimbabwean trio Insingizi, recorded in an old Italian church. It’s an interesting version of this song, I had to look up the details. Hans Theessink is quite known over here. Once I attended a guitar workshop held by Hans Theessink but it’s long ago, probably late 80’s.
Birgit,
I have a file of this sung by a wide variety of singers. This version is one of my favorites. I did know it was sung by the Zimbabwean trio Insingizi, but I didn’t know the rest. It’s as if this song is its own UN.

If ever you find yourself longing for some good tuba sounds, listen to Hans Theessink and Blue Groove. Jon Sass is a bass ace.

Thanks, Jeff
I like this song, and I Am a sucker for brass instruments.
