GERALD STANLEY LEE quote

Coming soon to a record player near you, the new album from Richard Hawley. Fabgear or a bust ? Here is the first song “Which way”
July 1, 2015 at 1:16 pm
I love, love, love Richard Hawley. I vote “Fabgear.”
July 1, 2015 at 1:42 pm
im6 – I am with you on this – Standing at the Sky’s Edge still gets rotation after 3 years. Richard Hawley is a lot like the Eels and Beirut, someone that should be gigantic but isn’t.
Song is fab – I would like to give it 10

Gnu,
I knew all the words to this song! That it was Australian and filled with foreign English words was the best part.

Last seen serving a hefty prison sentence – his didgeridoo was well and truly parked.
July 2, 2015 at 11:44 am
MDH,
I did not know about his prison sentence so I went hunting. His didgeridoo should have been parked many years ago.
“In 2014, at the age of 84, he was convicted and jailed on 12 counts of indecent assault that took place between 1968 and 1986, on four female victims then aged between eight and 19. As a result, he was stripped of many of the honours which he had been awarded during his career, including the AO and CBE.[8][9][10] As of 2015, Harris is serving a 5-year, 9-month prison sentence at HMP Stafford.”

Gnu,
That this was a hit amazes me now, but I loved it when it was released. His voice, the Purple People Eater’s, makes me cringe, but he did get to play rock and roll if only through the hole in his head. Love the ending!

Gnu,
My favorite part of this is the video. I recognized so many B movies, ones I love and watch every time they’re on. I remember well this song, and then it came out a second time and was a hit then too.

Gnu,
With your Cnu, I had to approve your comments which is why they didn’t appear. We were all wondering where you were!
This was wonderful-right down to the band-aid on his nose. If ever there was a yin and yang!

Fun! How could I not think of this clip from one of my favorite movies (maybe my favorite comedy)?
July 1, 2015 at 2:46 pm
im6,
This is also one of my favorite movies. The coincidences make me laugh right out loud. I didn’t expect that ending in the courtroom.
This is such a wonderful clip. Now I want to watch the whole movie again!!

I believe I sent you a copy? Did you donate to the library?
July 1, 2015 at 2:54 pm
im6,
You did send me a copy when I was bed ridden in pain from my back, and I still have it. No DVD’s ever get donated from me. I love my movies too much, especially this one!

GnuFool seems to have dropped the ball today, so I went outside and picked you a trio of tunes. Here’s the first one from back in 1964:

In 1970, this poor guy came along and made one of pop’s most classic albums. About 10 people discovered it. Here’s the “hit,” such as it was:

In 1984, Terry Hall joined up with The Specials and came up with this one:
July 1, 2015 at 2:06 pm
im6 – I think that Hall was there along with Dammers right from the start in the late 70s. There was a recent rerelease of all 3 Specials albums as double discs and all are well worth seeking out if you have a chance.
July 1, 2015 at 2:07 pm
im6,
I wasn’t one of those who bought his album. I don’t even recognize his name. My excuse-I was in Africa in 1970.
I found this on Wiki, “Rhodes wrote all of the songs on his albums. On Emitt Rhodes, Mirror, and Farewell to Paradise, he played all of the instruments and sang all of the vocals while recording himself in his home recording studio. He used a four-track recorder for the instruments for Emitt Rhodes and transferred those to an eight-track recorder to add the vocals.”
He was and is busy recording.

im6,
I love your daisy theme today and how varied your choices are, especially the last one by the colour field.
You have introduced me to 3 new groups/artists today!!
July 1, 2015 at 2:15 pm
Kat, Emitt Rhodes was often cited as being the next McCartney. Paul did all the instruments, etc. on his first solo album and then Emitt showed him how it was supposed to be done. Reviews of Rhode’s albums often mentioned something along the lines of “the next McCartney,” except, of course, Paul was having nothing of that. I personally believe the squeeze was on.

im6,
I don’t know this at all, and I love it! I think I only know their Sugar Shack. They are so let 50’s-early 60’s with their hair-dos and suits.
July 1, 2015 at 2:17 pm
im6,
I went hunting and read quite a bit about him. His album got nothing but rave reviews. I guess Sir Paul was touchy and felt comparisons inappropriate.

Right – time for a dance party – Ladies and Gentlemen….The Rolling Stones
July 1, 2015 at 2:51 pm
My Dear Hedley,
We must NEVER go back to the fashions of the mid-60’s. Dancing with a riding crop alone in your room is also out. Happily, though, this is still a great song!
July 1, 2015 at 3:06 pm
Kat, its from the August 1964 EP “Five by Five” – I am cool with the riding whip chick, very Christine Keeler.
July 1, 2015 at 3:08 pm
MDH,
I expected you’d have a fondness for the riding crop chick!
July 1, 2015 at 3:39 pm
Aside from the riding crop chick, I just love how bluesy the Stones sound.
July 1, 2015 at 5:22 pm
MDH,
I loved their early sounds the best.

Gnu,
I remember this so well. I so love that opening.

Gnu,
This is the victory song played at Fenway Park.
Luckily Charles River is one of the cleanest in the country-now! It is even suited fro swimming. What a turnaround!

July 1, 2015 at 6:00 pm
Gnu,
This song isn’t at all familiar and neither is the name of the group. I looked them up and found out this was their big hit.

July 1, 2015 at 6:02 pm
Gnu,
I haven’t heard this one in years. Their clothes take me back, love the turtleneck.
July 1, 2015 at 6:44 pm
Straight out of Hamtramck and kicking around on the west side…Mitch Ryder is still rocking in Detroit
July 1, 2015 at 6:55 pm
Yup, still rocking!

Gnu,
You really brought us way back today!
