“I am drawn to the ocean; I find solace in its mystery.”

The morning is lovely. Earlier I met friends for breakfast at a spot on the water. To get there I took the long way around on the road which hugged the seashore. The houses along the sides of the road are big and beautiful with gardens to match. A couple of the bigger houses are well hidden behind high bushes. Some are gated.

As there is no breeze for a change, the water was still. The fog was thick enough to hide the ocean beyond the breakwater. When I arrived at the restaurant, it was high tide, and I could smell the salt water. I took in deep breaths as if to memorize the smell. Boats came and left by way of the channel. One excursion boat was filled with kids in life jackets, a school group we guessed. Good for them! It is a perfect day to be on the water.

The sun is shining, and it is already warm, 76˚. After today, though, the days will be cooler, and even a couple of nights will dip to the 50’s. The weekend will be dry. June on Cape Cod is unpredictable.

Today all is quiet. Not a lawnmower or blower disturbs the songs of birds. This room is still shaded and cool. The sun won’t be here until the late afternoon.

I am barefooted. That is the summer standard in the house and on the deck. When I was a kid, I went barefooted all the time. My feet were calloused and even the hot sidewalks had no effect. I loved the feel of cool grass between my toes. In Ghana I wore sandals all the time, but my feet still each became a giant callous impervious to everything including a lit match. Why a lit match? It was a test, a silly test, to determine exactly how tough my feet had become. The match did not even bother me at all.

I have a couple of places I need to go, but I am reluctant to leave the cool house for the hot, busy road. I guess, though. I’ll just have to bite the bullet.

We passed 80F here today and I love it. I guess I love it because I know it won’t last for long, it will cool down already tomorrow afternoon.

I do miss the ocean and all the smells. To hear the fishing boats leave harbor and the seagulls following them. I do hear seagulls here too but it isn’t the same ifbthe smells and sounds aren’t there to accompany them.

Always barefoot indoors during summer but not so often in the garden since I never know eher the dogs have done their businesses 🙂

No more errands this week so I’ll just stay at home and relax 🙂

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

    • Christer,
I read your blog earlier and was pleased to see you’d had another warm day. Just a few days ago you were thinking summer was drawing to close. Looks like it was on hiatus for a day or two to gather strength.

The smell of the ocean is one of my all time favorite smells. The gulls are noisy birds especially when they’re following the fishing boats returning to port.

      Errands on Sunday!

      Have a great evening!

Kat – you need to tell im6 off – he is bating me. He forwarded a new tweet/post from Beck with the title “Dreams” and the suggestion of a new album. Pitchfork being somewhat im6 like is reporting that a single of the same name will be released on Monday.

So we will wait, maybe a new album from Beck and definitely a new album from Beirut on September 11th. These things are good

Perfect summer day and a trip with a friend into the local past today, the regional Open-air State Museum for Craft and Technics.

      Birgit
I watched it and saw the pretty timbered buildings in Hagen which I assume is near the Ruhr Valley ? Which crafts did you go for ? Do you watch or participate ?

I am working on a heritage trip to Ulm which may take place in May 2016.

    • Birgit,
I watched it all. A few grasses blew and the water rippled in the pond and fell off the water wheel. If I hadn’t seen those, I would have thought this was of still pictures as everything was so quiet. was glad to see the close up of the side of the yellow house.

What did you do there? What was your favorite part?

        Kat and Hedley,
it was similar today, perfect blue sky, a light breeze and very quiet, not many people there. Hagen is on the southern side of the Ruhr. We didn’t see many crafts today (we’ve both been there before), just some smithing(?), cardboard-making and stone-cutting. The weather was too beautiful to stay inside the houses for too long. We mainly walked around, had a picnic with fresh bread and sausages and coffee from the museum bakery/butchery and ice cream of course. A nice lazy day outside.
Cologne trip tomorrow, more singing than sightseeing.
Hedley, heritage trip to Ulm sounds great. Do it!

      • Birgit,
I am envious of such a wonderful day which also included a picnic. Nothing beats fresh bread and I do love sausages.

Sorry that the singing is going to interrupt your sightseeing!

I love places with few people. It is like being in your own quiet world!

Birgit, bread, sausage ..but no beer ?
Waiting for a full report on Cologne

Kat, it was a different world, just nature and the sound of water and singing birds. And nice company, a friend I know my whole lifetime.
Hedley, no beer! But I will certainly drink this liquid stuff the people from Cologne call beer tomorrow.
It will be a long day. Good night!

      • Birgit,
I hope your day tomorrow is a wonderful one! Keep the string of wonderful days going!

Hottest day so far but we haven’t hit 100 yet. The official temperature is taken at the DFW airport. It can be hotter or cooler at the other airports around the area. The humidity has been increasing making it uncomfortable enough to want to stay inside in the airconditioning or in a swiming pool. The higher humidity is helping to keep the temperature from reaching 100 degrees.

    • Bob,
It seldom reaches 90˚ here. I have to go back into my memory to Ghana when during the dry season it was often over 100˚with 107˚ or 108˚ as the mean temperature. That was in a place with no AC.

I am quite content with the current 67˚ which will get warmer in the afternoon.
