Not related to music, but I think what he is talking about is a variation of upspeak, where the last word in a sentence is drawn out. Aka, Valley girl speak. But I don’t think I have heard it as a pitch change. I do get a subliminal urge to quick slap (lightly of course) up speakers and demand, speak English ya cottonpicking jaybird.

    • Spaceman,
I cringe when I hear the English language misspoken or I am subjected to a speaker who hems, ums or ya knows his way through a few declarative sentences. Lately the objects of prepositions have become nominative cases as in between you and I. That is heard often on TV weekly programs so the writer didn’t know what was correct and neither did anyone hearing it spoken. Want to go with? That has started to drive me crazy.

Upspeak is almost the lesser of evils.

British period piece movies are wonderful just to hear them speak
