Pete is 70 today. Rumour has it that Pete wrote this on his 20th birthday, probably not true as it was released in October 1965
Here is a slightly different version from Charlton in 1974 – it was televised on the BBC

MDH,
How can he be 70?
I never envisioned these bands being around so long. The earlier bands just disappeared as styles changed. I guess rock and roll doesn’t really change all that much.

Pete, Rog, Keith and John – we risked life and limb to go see them play. Some of us got old and some of us didn’t

MDH,
I don’t feel old and wonder who that lady is with the grey hair.

Gnu,
I so remember all the top ten songs Dick is showing. Such pre-electronic boards are fun to see.
Love the Coasters!

They didn’t call Jackie “Mr. Excitement” for nothing. Truly one of the best who has kind of gotten lost over time. For those who don’t know, he suffered a heart attack at age 40 and spent most of the next 9 years in a coma (he was briefly conscious at times). Died at the age of 49. Lots of info about his life and career on his Wikipedia page (and lots of juicy gossip too!).

im6,
I had no idea about his life. I know him only by his music. I also didn’t know he had died so young after being in a coma so long. Even his kids suffered tragic deaths.

Gnu,
What a great voice, and I love to watch him-it is such an amazing part of his act. He moves so easily and so dramatically.

Great post – I have been playing the reissues of The Specials, and the double disc set for “More Specials” includes a rather fab version of Sea Cruise

MDH,
I haven’t heard The Specials release-didn’t know anyone else did the song. You are a font of knowledge.

Gnu,
The Dick Clark openings are fun to watch.
This is a great song, but I’m sort of confused by the props. He’s offering a scenic cruise but looks shipwrecked. Perhaps he is sun crazed.

Gnu,
You have outdone yourself today with these great songs and groups.
Love his short interview with that stoned-faced audience member.
Another great song.

Completely new to me and a wonderful way to start the day with a good laugh. Winners of the contest held by the Westchester County Recreation Commission — if that isn’t a recommendation, I don’t know what is !!! And watch out James Brown, you’ve got dancing competition. Thanks for sharing this treasure.

Gnu,
This is also brand new to me.
Those shirts are almost beyond ugly. I got a chuckle that when he stopped dancing. It was immediate as if a bell had been rung. He just stood still.
Such fun to watch an Amateur Hour, young hopefuls probably never seen on TV again. Here we had Community Auditions, on for what seemed forever. It had majorettes, dancers, singers and lots of accordion players.

Gnu,
Great choice! They were so classic and classy, so smooth.

Oops! Almost forgot to wish Cherilyn Sarkisian a happy 69th birthday. Yes, she’s a joke, but I think maybe she’s aware that she’s a joke and rather enjoys it. She’s also got some talent — rarely better than when she interpreted Jimmy Webb back in 1975.

im6,
Other than her intentionally humorous chats with Sonny on their program, I haven’t ever found her a joke. Some of her songs are amazing. Her voice shines.
This is the first time I’ve heard this. I read the album wasn’t ever released. Too bad!
She looks better at 69 than I did in my 20’s.

Gnu,
I actually bought a 45 of this. Listening now, I’m not sure why.
