Spaceman,
I wasn’t thrilled about the video, but I did like the music. I went to Wikipedia and found this, “The song received mixed reviews from critics and generated controversy when it was used to support neo-fascism in Italy.” I’ll have to find a translation so I’ll know why.

It’s the “official” release video. They spice those up. Hardly political. I understand he incorporates rural Columbian themes into his songs
I first saw Jaunes on Austin City Limits. He brought down the house

Spaceman,
I thought the video did disservice to his voice.
The music I’ve heard so far is excellent. I do love this sound.
I wasn’t meaning to seem critical.

Pues, de nada. I’m sort of interested in things latin on account of continuing to study Spanish over at Continuing Ed. Their music do throw the horns and percussion right at you.
I’m getting where I can read reasonably well if I get to to look up some vocab. There are many words in spanish that are similar to their english version, which helps a bunch. Thus far I have concluded “People” magazine is not very interesting in either english or Spanish. And yes, the Spanish version is about Spanish people. Next mission is understanding spoken Spanish. Much harder. So how much language were you able to pick up in your Kenya trips?

Spaceman,
My trips were to Ghana where English is the national Language. It was a former British colony and there are many tribal languages, not like East Africa with Swahili, so they kept English. As part of my Peace Corps training I was taught Hausa, and I remember most of the greetings and used them forty years later to greet fellow diners on my first night back in my old town.
I have a great memory (or had when I was younger) so learning a language was easy for me. I just always had a really horrid accent.
I had two years of Spanish in college but years later still managed an 8 week trip from Venezuela to Rio and my Spanish was enough to get what we needed and where we wanted to go.

Oh my bad on Ghana, I didn’t know English was spoken there. That must been a great experience in Afrika. And definitely some people can pick language much quicker than others.
Hey it’s Cinco de Mayo, which of course celebrates the anniversary of when Mexico invented the Margarita.

Spaceman,
Living in Africa was an amazing experience. I got to know places almost as well as I knew my own hometown. I loved my whole time there.
I think my memory gave me the advantage as I could remember vocabulary words.
That’s as good a reason as any to celebrate today!
