Benjamin Franklin quote

In the 1950s all of the first run movies played in the theaters downtown. In Dallas the movie houses lined Elm Street and people used to get dressed up to go downtown on a Saturday night for a nice meal and a movie. I remember seeing “The Ten Commandments” at the Palace theater in downtown Dallas. My mother bought reserved seat tickets and during the intermission a pipe organ would rise out of the stage and an organist would play live music. The only theater left downtown is the Majestic. It was saved as a historical landmark, they no longer show movies but stage plays and special music events.

Bob,
Boston too had a few majestic movie theaters. I shaw Cleopatra in one of them. My friends and I got all dressed up to go to the city. I remember the ladies room was a beautiful room with lounge chairs. That theater was saved and became the Wang Theater and is now Citi Performing Arts Center and has musical events l as yours does.
My hometown movie theater has also become a stage theater. I get a kick out of going there. The balcony was always unavailable because of throwing objects from there on Saturdays. Now it is seating.

Luckily there has been a movement to save the beautiful movie theaters that were in the downtown areas as well as some neighborhood theaters. The interiors were elaborate and plush including things like ceilings that appeared to look like the night sky with lights that looked like stars. The best Art Deco version is the Radio City Music Hall which still features a live performance by the Rockets along with the film.

minicapt,
I think it a bit strange they renamed the movie. The Born for Trouble was called a working title yet it was released that way-odd.
