(Thank you WSJ for a great article today)
Sunday is the 50th anniversary of “Bringing it all back home”
Bob plugged in for side one and ripped in to Subterranean Homesick Blues”. It was never to be the same again and the follow ups of “Highway 61” and “Blonde on Blonde” were equally incendiary. And then Bob fell off his motor cycle and the Great White Wonder told us Bob was in a basement and the bootleg industry was born
Was this Bob at his peak ?
Did Maggie’s farm make it to Ghana or was it still Joni’s farm ?
Was this the moment to jump on the train now that folkie world was in the rear view mirror ?
I love Bob, I ride through the highs and the lows. He sings about Christmas, he croons Frank, he is never boring. I even like the born again period and hope that one day Massey Hall will be part of the bootleg series.
Well, I wake in the morning
Fold my hands and pray for rain
I got a head full of ideas
That are drivin’ me insane
It’s a shame the way she makes me scrub the floor
I ain’t gonna work on Kat’s farm no more

My Dear Hedley,
You’re reading the words of a Bob fan starting with Freewheeling’ then back to his first and then onward and upward. I remember playing his music in the car and singing along with every song. My head was bopping and I suspect other drivers gave me a wide berth.
I also love Bob, but I’m not sure about that Christmas album. I have two friends who have never liked him. I was horrified but then I found out they liked Barry Manilow so I understood.
Thanks for the Dylan song plug!

Stop complaining! Coloured food doesn’t taste any better than black & white.
Cheers
