“Winter is not a season, it’s an occupation.”

When I opened the front door, my eyes were blinded by the sunlight glinting like strewn diamonds on the foot of snow in my yard. The world is bright and sunny and oh so white. The Cape got hammered yesterday, more than anywhere else in the state. The only no school announcements were for Cape schools. This morning they have a two-hour delay. I am, for the meantime, stuck in my house until Skip comes. The paper is somewhere in the snow. I think I saw its drop point. Yesterday’s mail is still in the box across the street. Gracie jumped over the two steps outside the backdoor as she can’t see them but did go down the flight of stairs to the yard. She won’t use her dog door. The snow is too high on the top step. She scratched the door to come inside the house. I think it is the first time she’s ever done that.

I heard a noise out front and went to check. It was Skip. I have been freed. He just finished shoveling and plowing. I then threw de-icer on the back steps and stairs and on the front walk. My car is clear of snow and frost so I can hit the road after I finish here. Knowing I can go about my business makes having snow a bit more bearable, but only a bit. This last storm has taken away any forbearance for winter.

Today is cold, 24˚ cold, though there are drips as the direct sun is strong enough to melt the thin layer of snow on the roof but nowhere else is dripping or melting. We even had ice and snow on the roads and in our yards from the last two storms. The mound in front of my house will be there until May.

We turn the clocks ahead this weekend and March 20th is the first day of spring, but that doesn’t really mean spring. Between now and next Friday only one day will reach as high as 40˚. Winter stays holds sway, and I hate winter this year.

    Kat,

I just can’t help believing that you must have done something very wrong to deserve a winter like this one. LOL!!

      Carl,
I had begun to wonder if maybe this is the beginning of the Apocalypse. Good thing it’s too cold for plagues of frogs or locusts.

This winter is bad on the East Coast and warm on the West Coast. Did they do something good in California that they deserve good weather? We in the tribe that believes that humans effect the environment can blame big energy companies for polluting the atmosphere with Co2 causing global warming. While those in the other tribe, believe that humans and especially big energy companies, can’t affect the environment enough to cause global warming. They say that this was just an unlucky winter along the East Coast. We are so lucky to live in this wonderful country where everyone can have an opinion and they can find a member of Congress who agrees with their crazy opinion. The Senator from Oklahoma, the one that threw the snow ball in the Senate chamber, doesn’t believe in Science but only in oil company executives. 🙂

      Bob,
That idiot senator doesn’t get the whole concept of what global warming does to the climate. I figure he must think this winter is God’s retribution on the east coast liberals.

We haven’t had over the 100 inches of snow Boston got this winter, but we surely got plenty. This last storm was ours alone. I got a chuckle out of the news. Each successive weather broadcast changed the amount of snow we were expecting. It started with 2-4 then it went 4-6 then 6-8 and finally 8-12 by the 11 o’clock news. That one was accurate!

    Hi Kat,
Nothing at all up here yesterday except dense grey. So dense that my purple solar butterfly light did not have enough sun juice to stay lit for more than a couple of hours last night. Maybe the brilliant sunshine today has replenished it.
My town has gotten 107 inches of snow so far this winter. It’s not a record, though. I’m willing to forego the honor of breaking it. I need some spring.

The dogs and I were able to go out a few times today even though it was cold. The sun was warm enough that excessive arctic gear was unnecessary. It was good to get outside and move around for a change.

Stay warm and enjoy the evening.

      Hi Caryn,
We haven’t had as much snow as you so maybe yesterday was Mother Nature’s catch-up day. It was a heavy snow. The sun was warm enough to melt some of it. I have huge icicles hanging from the eaves.

I did a couple of errands then had PT at 4. I bought a treat for dinner tonight: stuffed jumbo shrimp with lobster sauce. It is baking now. I got it at the fish market and it looks wonderful. I also bought some Irish bread. Tomorrow Gracie and I have errands: her favorite dumb run, a stop for dog food and I need a couple of things for Sunday night at the grocery store. It is my turn for appetizers.

Have a great evening-cuddle with the dogs!

Christmas CD recording session tonight, we sang about Colorado snow for nearly 6 hours. Your sister can blame us for any new snow 😉
