You Don’t Own Me: Lesley Gore
Many videos of Lesley singing were posted in the comment section, but I thought I’d post my two favorites in case you didn’t read the comments.
Lesley Gore, whose No. 1 hit “It’s My Party” kicked off a successful singing career while she was still in high school, has died. She was 68. Gore, born Lesley Sue Goldstein, had just turned 17 when “It’s My Party,” produced by Quincy Jones, topped the charts in June 1963.
“You Don’t Own Me,” also produced by Jones, was a dramatic assertion of independence and pride. Released in late 1963, it peaked at No. 2, kept out of the top spot by the Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand.” Over the years the song, written by John Madara and Dave White, became a feminist anthem, recorded by such artists as Dusty Springfield and Joan Jett.
During the 2012 presidential campaign, a number of celebrities — including Lena Dunham, Tavi Gevinson and Carrie Brownstein — appeared in a commercial lip-synching the song in an effort to urge women to vote.

Here’s a late ’60s Lesley Gore I liked:

Thanks, llewyn. I don’t know this song. Her voice sounds more mature than on her earlier songs even though it is only a couple of years in between.

In the 60’s she even recorded this and other songs in German. The arrangement is pretty much the same. Back then our recording industry could make more money with German songs so a lot of international stars had to sing in German which wasn’t always a good idea if you listen to the results. The German lyrics of Gore’s Goodbye Tony (= You Don’t Own Me) are quite silly and it wasn’t a hit either.
Good luck in your white arctic wilderness. Return home safely.

Birgit – I assume that you wandered over to the Veltins Arena yesterday to watch Gareth Bale and the preening pony that is Ronaldo

Hedley, no live Ronaldo yesterday, not even on radio/TV 😦
Chorus rehearsal in rival soccer town Dortmund instead. I listened to Munich – Donezk (sister city of my hometown) on the radio on Tuesday but it was quite boring.

Birgit,
I feel so accomplished. I managed to do 4 errands today without a mishap. It was good to get home. The only problem was they didn’t have any whoopie pies left. I was woebeggon.
I have a file somewhere on some hard-drive of songs in German by the original singers. I may have to go hunting.
