Louisa May Alcott quote
February 16, 2015 at 12:48 pm
Dear Birgit and Kat
And so the Palace of Auburn Hills was really quite full, and a very precise 10 piece band, 3 back up singers and a gigantic gospel choir waltzed Barry Manilow through 90 minutes of hits, medleys, and other stuff. Dave Koz had opened, a total mismatch for the stadium.
I sense that this will be the very last of these events. The waves of nostalgia past very quickly as the chilled air brought me quickly back in to focus.
The evening was somewhat perfunctory even if the sentiment was not

My Dear Hedley,
You were looking so forward to this I am glad you were not disappointed. I saw your go-stick picture and you looked quite delighted.
He could go longer in his career-look at Tony Bennett.
How did 90 minutes end up perfunctory? With all that backup, including a gospel choir, it sounds as if all the top songs got sung and the concert was complete.
How did Barb enjoy it?

Kat, It was very much a show and not a concert. We are going to get the Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett tour at Meadowbrook later this year. I dunno

MDH,
I would do both of those.

Hedley,
thanks, I just watched some videos of this concert on YouTube. Seems that his voice has aged less than his face. It’s embarrassing to admit but I knew more songs than I thought. Memories of the 70’s. Wow, the arena is really huge. It’s astonishing that he can still draw so many people. I think I would have enjoyed this show with beer. Lots of beer. Oh Maaandyy…

Birgit, I would guess around 12,000 in the Arena. The upper curtains were closed but otherwise it was pretty full. The crowd was “not young” but in very good spirits. The Palace is less than 10 minutes from my home, so it is a very easy night out.
Kat – Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga are touring together – The tickets go on sale this Saturday….ready???? ….$275.00 a ticket plus booking fee. NOPE !!
