“Can you go cazy without knowing you’re crazy?”

The Cape has the only blizzard. Everywhere else has a major snowstorm. The wind is the difference. It has been as high as 65 MPH here but is now slowing down. The snow has stopped in Boston. We will be the last holdout. Bitter cold is coming tonight. In Boston the wind chill will be -30˚. During the rest of the week the temperature will hover around 0˚.  At the storm’s strongest, 4 inches of snow an hour fell last night. This winter has jumped from the 9th snowiest on record to the third, and winter is far from over. They are predicting another snow storm for Tuesday but a small one, only a few inches. The last two weeks have been described as an historic event.

I find myself talking aloud. I suspect it has to do with being stuck in the house with only the dog and cats for company. Gracie is the best listener. She looks right at me when I’m talking to her. She could be thinking I’m crazy, but I prefer to believe she is intently listening to what I have to say.

My Sunday papers are somewhere near the driveway. I am having withdrawal. When I opened the front door, I figured if I could see the papers I’d go get them. I didn’t even see the driveway.

Gracie went right out this morning with no hesitation. She really must have needed to go. She squatted then started to head for the backyard to finish her business but thought better of it and ran right back up the stairs to come inside the warm house. She is sleeping now, exhausted from her few minutes in the snow.

What to do today? Nothing piques my interest. The laundry is still in the hall, but I’m not so stir crazy that doing laundry has any appeal. Maybe I’ll watch a movie or read a book or maybe I’ll just stare out the window with glazed eyes and slacked jaw.

    Hi Kat,
I opened my door this morning and was immediately depressed. The town plows have blocked up the access to the street so solidly that I can’t get through. There is so much snow on the ground that the dogs couldn’t go out unless I shoveled it first so l did that. I waded through the snow to the driveway because my plow guy had removed the town plow mound and I could get to the street over what was left. At last the dogs could do their business. Piki Dog climbed to the very top of the mountain and did it up there.

On a positive note, the high winds are clearing off the ice dams. And the sun is sort of out. It’s bright at least.

I think I may refuse to shovel anything from this point on. I will wade through it. If I can do it, so can anyone else that has to come to my door.
Yes, I am probably crazy by now.

Laundry is in the washer. Something that doesn’t involve lifting snow. How refreshing. 🙂

    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
At least you have had plows. None have come down my street so far. The wind is from the north and the snow is blowing like in a blizzard. There are enormous drifts. Poor Gracie looks crazed when she comes inside the house.

It is brighter here but no sun. The snow is down to a few flakes. I just wish the wind would stop.

      I don’t shovel and I won’t ever. I’ll just wait for Skip.

Even your doing laundry doesn’t inspire me to do mine.

Have a good day both warm and cozy.

100 year Record cold, they screamed this morning, the air temperature is -10f and the wind chill is below -30f. The skies are blue the sun is pouring in through the window and I am reading Helen MacDonald’s “H is for Hawk” she is about to tour the US promoting the book. I am not sure if I like it or not.

Upgrade your parking for just $20 invited The Palace, and you will be really close to the door. It’s Barry night, I will be dressed to trudge across the asphalt tundra, they shall not get my $20

Been a rough couple of weeks, but I cannot imagine what you have faced.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      My Dear Hedley,
The wind is unbelievable right now. The snow blows so hard it is a white-out in spots. 0˚ will be the high for a couple of days. First snow then freezing temperatures then snow again.

I figure they have lots of extra seats and parking spots!

All the harsh adjectives in the world can’t describe the last two weeks.

      Hedley,
platform shoes are perfect for snow and Manisnow 😉
Have fun tonight and please tell us about the concert afterwards.

The high temperature here today will only be about 60 degrees. Yesterday’s high was actually 78. But, winter’s not over even here in North Texas. The forecast for tonight is temperatures dropping into the 30s with another cold front with rain turning into a 30% chance of a dusting of light snow by Tuesday morning.

Last week in Toronto I got a small taste of this winter’s nastiness and I didn’t like it at all. I can’t imagine measuring snow accumulations in feet. Unfortunately, the deniers of global warming will dismiss this winter as a natural anomaly instead of the weird weather patterns that scientists predict as a result of the climate change which human activities have had a profound negative effect.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Bob,
Maybe you should wear a coat. 60˚ can be so brutal.

I’d take the 30’s and your dusting anytime. It would almost seem like summer. If the deck were clear, I’d get some rays.

The idiots who deny global warming should realize that last year was the warmest on record. It is an average of temperatures. The weather pattern we are in has never happened here before. We have had a giant storm which crippled cities and town but never one after another. We do have feet of snow on the ground. The corners of some street are over 6 feet of piled snow.

Unfortunately, global warming prevention is not in the best financial interests of the big donors to the Republican party especially the Koch brothers. They bankroll the campaigns of the “Tea Party” Republicans who twist science to meet their personal political goals. In politics, money talks and everything else walks. 😦

      • katry's avatar katry Says:

        Bob,
I find the Koch brothers abhorrent.

Good luck and stay warm! Or move to Europe, – snowdrops instead of snow. I can’t even imagine -30˚.
Btw, when someone is crazy we say “you have a bird” or “you don’t have all your cups in the cupboard” or “you don’t have all laths on the fence”.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Birgit,
We say things like the elevator doesn’t go to the top floor or you have only one oar in the water.

Luckily the wires are intact so I have heat. The snow has finally stopped, but the wind is still horrific.

I’m not liking this at all. I’ve never seen the like my whole life.

  5. Christer.'s avatar olof1 Says:

It was quite nasty outside here this morning but the sun broke through and the day became rather nice. Now the temperature drops and the wind gets stronger so it isn’t especially nice any longer. Still it’s much better here than it is over at Yours.

It’s so strange how You have the cold weather and we barely reach winter temperature. I don’t mind though 🙂 Still no spring flowers here as Birgit has but I’m pretty sure that if we had the cold weather would come and kill them all 🙂

Have a great day in the cold!

    Christer.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Christer,
The snow has stopped, and it is getting lighter out. Even the wind seems to be a bit less. The drifts are as tall as people in some spots.

I saw some green shoots before the snow came. It had been a warm, snowless winter, but nit any more. This is the worst of all.

I am staying inside, cozy and warm.

      Have a great evening!

It will all make a great story, this New England ‘Winter of 2014/15’. You better make some notes so as your tales will have at least a bit of continuum to them!

I laugh, as we are currently having early spring. Today, rain with a chill fog, and the sun peaking through the clouds on occasion, barely making the scene a bit brighter. This 40/50/60’s after a frigid start is really unusual. Gotta be global warming! (cooling, in your case).

    Carl

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Carl,
I don’t need any notes. I won’t ever forget this winter. Narrating the tale might sound like a bit exaggerated but it won’t be.

I would sun myself if it reached 40˚!!

Can you please explain today’s quote? And lest anyone else wonder, it IS a quote (from ‘Deadly Little Lies’) and not that Kat ran out of Rs. (I checked)

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      im6,
I actually read the cazy as crazy which made perfect sense to me. I figured if you’re crazy, you have no idea you are. What seems real isn’t real.
I have no idea of the cazy!

  8. splendidone's avatar splendidone Says:

My thought are with you all today, I cannot imagine the cold and hardship physically but much more mentally of being housebound and worrying about so many things. Sending warm, happy thoughts to you all xoxoxox

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      splendid,
I live in a winter wonderland. I have yet to be plowed out from that last horrific storm with 65 MPH winds. The drifts are taller than I am. The world outside does look pretty, but it is freezing cold. I am happy to be warm and cozy inside.

We’ll survive. Thanks-I could use a lot of happy thoughts.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Thanks, splendid.
I live in a winter wonderland but see it mostly from my windows. My plow guy just appeared so I am getting out soon instead of being holed up in the house.
