It was Coca Cola, but the BBC wasn’t having it so Ray had to fly home and substitute cherry cola. They hadn’t worked out the subject matter, Ray and Dave slid one by.
I have been rather pleased with the recent compilation The Kinks Anthology 1964-1971 which a rather nice mono version of this.
We all have favorite Kinks tunes…this one sits very high with me

My Dear Hedley,
This is right up there with me as well, but then most of The Kinks songs are.
I didn’t know about it originally being Coca Cola.

greg,
I have never heard this one before this. I didn’t even know The Raincoats. I did look them up and as surprised they are all women-unusual.
I like this!

greg,
Not perverse but rather offering an opinion!

Lola was one of our favorite early school party songs and campfire sing-alongs and I still like it very much. Rod Stewart and the Doors were also popular at school parties. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band didn’t really cross the ocean though the song Mr.Bojangles was known of course. Mid to late 70’s, young and short of money, so musically we were often a few years late back then. I added Deep Purple and Uriah Heep to your party set. Nice memories and Yeah, party 🙂

Birgit,
I am even more of a Kinks fan now than I was back then.
Party? Did you say party? We were great party people when I was in college. When I was a senior, we had a happy hour every Friday at a local bar a friend’s parent owned. That juke box was playing the whole time. Party Hearty!
