“Anyone who’s just driven 90 yards against huge men trying to kill them has earned the right to do Jazz hands. ”

That noise you hear is me running down the street screaming. The cause? More snow is coming starting later tonight into tomorrow. Luckily we are only getting 4-6 inches while Boston is expecting 8-12. I have no idea where they will put all that new snow. The street corners already have tall piles too high to see around. It seems Mother Nature is making up for what had been a snow-less winter.

The big game is tonight. All the hoopla will finally come to a head at kick-off. I am and have always been a Pats fan, even through the lean years, the pre-Brady years. It is just being faithful to the home team, an obligation of sorts.

Local Channel 5 is my go to it news station. This time of year especially I have noticed they have a hierarchy of sorts. It seems older announcers become on-site weather people who go to the places being highest hit. They stand outside during the storm’s ferocity getting buffeted by the wind and soaked by the rain or snow, all the while talking about how bad it all is. During the snow storm we just had, one announcer disappeared, blown off-camera by the wind.

My dad loved the Giants but changed his allegiance to the Patriots when the new league was established. He’d sit in his favorite spot, at the end of the couch nearest the TV. He was an ardent fan who yelled, castigated and complained. At Thanksgiving, he ate quickly so as not to miss any of the excitement. Most of the time he was by himself watching a game. My mother hated sports of any kind so she seldom would watch with him. If I were visiting, I’d spent a bit of time sitting and watching, but mostly I’d play Big Boggle in the kitchen with my mother. My dad would chit-chat with us when he made his forays into the kitchen during commercials or half-time. Usually my mother loaded up on special snacks for him so he never went back to the living room empty-handed.

My dad would have been so excited about the Super Bowl and his Patriots, and I’d probably have watched with him. My mother, being a wonderful hostess, would have made appetizers and joined us in the living room for this big game even though she knew nothing about football. One time she was cheering but the other team had the ball. We didn’t bother to explain. It was good of her to cheer.

I have a work friend who will take tomorrow of from work, he’ll be watching the game too. The rest of us are more soccer fans and knows very little about American football. I’ve always wondered why Yoiu don’t call it American Rugby since it actually is more of a rugby thing than football thing, they don’t even use a ball to be hyonest, it’s more like a squash looking thing 🙂 🙂

I hope the patriots win since it is my workj friends favorite team.

We’ve gotten around 4 inches of snow till now, it still snows but the flakes are so tiny it’s hard to see them. None of us are happy about this, we were hoping that we would get a snow free winter 🙂

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

I had never thought of the comparison of American football to Rugby. You are right that there are more similarities than comparing it to Soccer. Some of my British friends tell me that Rugby players are more manly because they don’t wear all that padding. They tell me that you have to have leather balls to play Rugby. 😄 Of course there aren’t many 325 lb. Rugby players who can run a hundred yards in less than ten seconds and bench press 400 lbs. Getting hit by an NFL linebacker is like getting hit by a locomotive.

I have no idea if rugby players are more manly 🙂 but my guess is that they are more hurt though 🙂
Yes I think they have leather balls when they play rugby and I know they aren’t allowed to throw the ball forward, just to the sides or back to a player behind them. I think that is all I actually know about the game 🙂

        Bob,
I agree about the size of the defensive line. Look at Vince Wilfork of the Pats-the size of a tank.

Rugby looks fierce. The players seem to be always bleeding and they get really filthy. They don’t defend in the same way as in football so they probably don’t need pads.

      Christer,
I know that rugby is closer to American football than soccer, but they still have differences. There are some rugby teams here but not many. Soccer is popular. In fact, my nephew received a full scholarship to a Division 1 school to play soccer. He was a 4 year starter.

Thanks-we need all the fans we can get.

I’ll take 4 inches over what we have and will be getting. I’m tired of snow!

      Have a great evening!

Tonight will be a success for the NFL, the TV stations, sports bars and pizza delivery places regardless who wins the game. Between the dramatic win of the Seahawks in the NFC championship game and deflate gate, I think the best two teams will take the field. My only worry is that the game will be decided on a close call by an official on the field that’s overturned by TV replay. During the review of the play the league gets an opportunity to put on another commercial. The NFL should return to the old baseball umpire adage “I calls em like I see em”.

May the best team win tonight and the TV stations hope that it’s not an early blow out. Usually I enjoy the wonderful commercials more than the game. It could have been the Cowboys verses the Pats if the boys weren’t of robbed a touchdown by an instant replay review.:-(

The weird weather patterns bringing all that snow could be blamed on global warming or hydraulic fracturing. Of course not caused by human intervention if you are a Republican. When you’re digging out of three or four feet of snow it doesn’t matter who to blame.

      Bob,
The hoopla has been going on all week. They have the NFL experience which seems to have tons of people every time there is a telecast from there.

I think the officials on the field don’t have a 360˚ view of the plays, only 180˚ depending on where they are standing. I have seen the Pats lose touchdowns on replays, maybe both feet not in play sort of thing. I complain but then it wasn’t a touchdown to begin with. Officials are only human.

I agree-no early blow out. The Pats-Colts game was the highest rating show of the week to start with then the numbers dropped as the Pats kept scoring.

I like the commercials and, depending on who it is, the half-time show.

This snow coming tonight is totally unwelcome!

    Hi Kat,
I couldn’t hear your screams because I was screaming. 🙂
Too much snow here now. No place to put it.
Piki Dog has discovered that climbing snow mounds is cool. Very cool. Cold even. He does it anyway.

No Superbowl viewing for me. I’ll be snacking, though. Yay for snacking. 🙂 I’m not a football fan. It’ll be CSPAN 2 or 3 for me.

Enjoy the game and the snacks. Go Pats!

      Hi Caryn,
I think there were lots of screamers when the newest forecast was given. We are getting the least because it will turn to rain a while then back to snow.

I saw the pictures of Piki Dog jumping in the snow. He was having the best time.

I am a Pats fan. If they aren’t playing, I don’t watch though I did watch parts of the championship games for the Broncos and Green Bay.

Thanks! The Swedish meatballs are already made, just the sauce is left.

      Enjoy CSpan!!

Our snow is gone and it’s gray outside, you can send over two inch of this white stuff.
    Have fun tonight!

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Birgit,
Only 2 inches? We have plenty to share and even more to share later.

The meatballs are made-onto the naan pizza!

    Hi Kat,

The Prince and I have been hard at work this morning. He has predicted a Patriots win and I hope that he right. He has announced 25-20 so write it down. As his Uncle plays in the NFL, he should know.

Meanwhile, in the family that is Tottenham Hotspur, it looks like I am going to do a weekend jump in to London for the League Cup Final on March 1. A friend knows how much it means and has offered me a couple of tickets. We support the club.

My first Super Bowl was in Tampa for the Giants and Buffalo, I was sitting in the end zone where Norwood missed that kick. I was also at the Pittsburgh and Seattle game at Ford Field.

So, enjoy the snow, gather the chums, settle Gracie and watch Mr Brady get number 4.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      My Dear hedley,
I too am hoping The Prince is clairvoyant, and I agree Eric gives him great status.

That is wonderful!! A trip to the finals. You have a very good friend.

I haven’t even been to a Pats game. I watch them all, but in the comfort of my home. Sometimes I am very thrilled not to be in the freezing weather watching the home team.

We are having appetizers and are great at cheering! GO PATS!

    Congratulations!

What a great ending to a close game. Congrats to the Pats.
