We (Kat and me) salute the first ever KTCC Double Pander as im6 is indulged with a gigantic Beach Boys tune to back up the announcement yesterday of Brian Wilson’s new album. This Shameless event is second over to adjusting your footballs and blaming a kid that had to go potty.
im6 as you bask in the sun of southern texas, and the Kat double pander, we salute you, your Bette Midler discs, your VHS copy of Beaches and hope that all your Super Bowl Squares come up winners
Happy weekend my/our friend

Ditto, im6!

Just listen to that song. How can you deny that it is simply beautiful? Nothing Brian could do today will ever compare to a tune this captivating — a tune that captures my youth like few others. And, yes, I have been basking in the sun and am about to go take a nap in the sun. I feel like Fern.

im6,
I had to decide which one to post, and this, after the storm we’ve had, seemed perfect.
Fern would be joining you in the sun. She loves to bask.
Have a most wonderful nap!!

im6 and Kat, while we glide through the double pander, there is one band that I have to see this year and that is Real Estate. Why ? they are just bloody marvelous

My Dear Hedley,
Okay, I’m sold!

Me too Kat, love the sound.

MDH,
How did you find them?
January 30, 2015 at 6:25 pm
Their album Atlas was on a list of albums to look forward to last March so I winged it. The disc has remained in my rotation.
I hadn’t seen the video until recently but I think it compliments the song very nicely. Mrs MDH feels they are a bit like The Eels, and she should know as she hears them both a lot.
Love these Indi bands who just ain’t famous rich and make wonderful music

I remember you talking about them a while back and I listened to the album and, honestly, wasn’t that impressed. I wasn’t UNimpressed, but nothing about them really grabbed me. Maybe I need to give them another listen. If I remember, they were kind of “jangly” in a mid-90s sort of way (usually something I like), but I didn’t hear anything that made me remember them either. Reviews on Amazon are pretty good, so you’re not alone in your opinion.

Im6, I hope you enjoy the video
Notwithstanding my forthcoming date with Barry Manilow, I am thinking about bands that I really want to see this year. I would automatically go out for The Eels or The Magnetic Fields or Beck but there are some I have never seen and Real Estate is one of them
Yes, I have seen Brian Wilson both with his chums and on his own
January 30, 2015 at 6:53 pm
Well, you’re one up on me. I’ve only seen The Beach Boys twice and never Brian on his own. And I have no desire to see either anymore. I’d still take seeing either of them over Manilow. Even the BBs with Mike Love!

Obviously im6, you are not a man who takes well to Glo Sticks or a good singalong with 20,000 Fanilows
January 30, 2015 at 6:59 pm
Obviously.
January 30, 2015 at 7:00 pm
MDH,
I agree with im6 about all of that.

So, Hedley, I’ve been listening to Real Estate again and I haven’t changed my mind (I can take ’em or leave ’em), but they DO remind me of some other group or groups. Who might those groups be? Can you think of who compares? Definitely mid-90s.
Full album, minus one song here:

I read the comments on YouTube for the “Had To Hear” video and someone nailed who they remind me of… The Stone Roses.
January 30, 2015 at 11:26 pm
im6,
I haven’t ever heard of The Stone Roses.

The Stone Roses most famous song:

thanks, im6
I have to say the music is okay but not anything I’d seek.
