Hi Katry – from Tel Aviv. Weather has been great; clear and sunny – mid-70s in afternoon. Quite a lot of bustle – Taxis whiz around everywhere through tiny streets. Bikes and electric bikes are very popular mode of transport. Many people here speak good English, which makes things pretty easy. And they like Americans. Staying a half block from a gigantic street market; produce, fresh bread, fish, etc. – it’s really neat to take a short stroll and pick out what you want for dinner. And the Mediterranean is about ¼ mile walk.
Today is their Sabbath (Shabbat) and absolutely almost everything closes, which is also OK. People & families walk about mostly. Going to walk to Jaffa this morning, which is a about mile down the coast. One of oldest seaports. Has a 16th century Catholic church, which may be the only Christian church in Tel Aviv. Join up with a tour group Monday. Catholic tour group no less though I am not Catholic. Figured it might present a more liturgical view of the various places rather than sightseeing.
Shalom

Hi Spaceman
Wow, from Tel Aviv. Your description makes me want to jump on a plane and go there. I love busy, bustling cities, and I really love markets. I can close my eyes and see it all.
I wish that everything still closed here on Sundays. One day of week which is quiet and for families would be a good thing again. Sunday dinners were the best and the only time we were all together given the various schedules.
I hope you have a wonderful time!! I’m envious.

Found a little Lutheran church & attended this morning. Has more history behind it than I realized.

Spaceman,
The church’s history is both long and amazing. I didn’t even think of Germans in Israel even though the church is Lutheran.
That was quite the interesting story.

The church itself was quite unassuming for all its history. Maybe 2 dozen people attended, mixed nationalities. Would sit maybe 60 if full. Sunday service in English. Pretty much a standard (USA type) Lutheran service. Pastor was danish I think, About 6’6″ I would say, which was mildly funny because he towered over everyone at communion.

Spaceman,
I’d think more might attend out of curiosity: an old church in Israel would draw me.
