Someone has neglected to remind them that Santa still arrives via the chimney, not the front door.
Cheers

Gnu,
This is my traditional Thanksgiving song, and I’ll be posting it tomorrow. I love the whole story from the trash dumping to the draft to the Group W bench.

Have a Gappy and feastful day tomorrow.

Who is James McMurtry where did he hide so long? Oh, I see, Austin. New to me and I like his voice and music. I have to spend some more time listening to his music on YouTube now, sleep is overrated anyway. Thanks, im6!

James is novelist Larry McMurtry’s son and he’s been around since the early 90s and he’s simply a wonder. Can you access file sharing sites? I’ll gladly upload a sampler of songs for you if you’d like and provide Kat the link which she can messsage/email you. He’s so very talented and has flown under the radar for way too long.

im6 and Birgit,
I’ll be happy to send a long the link to Birgit. That way I get it too!
Birgit,
Nothing is better than an im6 sampler!
November 26, 2014 at 7:20 pm
Psst, I’m still listening 😉
Thanks, im6 and Kat! I don’t it’s necessary, he must be so unknown over here that even his official releases aren’t blocked on YouTube. Still lots of music to discover! May be I’ll ask later if you don’t mind.

Hope you can get this video, Birgit. This is my very favorite McMurtry song. It will tear your heart right out of your chest.
WHERE’S JOHNNY?
Young Johnny, he really had a way
He did his homework on the school bus
And he always got an A
And the girls liked Johnny
More than anyone ‘cept maybe Elton John
Later on in high school
He couldn’t keep his red suspenders on
(chorus)
Oh where’s Johnny has he gone away
Oh where’s Johnny will he be back someday

He had a room full of trophies
From the track meets and the tennis games he’d win
He was a full-blown whiz kid
Bound to be a Renaissance man
Then he went on off to college
Got his head stuck in a different state of mind
When they asked him was it alcohol?
He told them it was nothing of the kind
Just life … just life, mom
(chorus)
But Johnny’s alright he just turned out his lights
They’d have paid it no mind had he not been so bright
He opened up his eyes and he snapped out of the groove
He saw both sides of everything and found he could not
move
Johnny moved home
Now he reads a lot of poetry and plays
He’ll sit out in the backyard
And not say a word to anyone for days
And his folks gave up
They no longer even bother getting through
He’s thirty-odd years old
They must have figured there’s just so much you can do
His mother keeps his pictures
In the scrapbook in the drawer with her pearls
She polishes the trophies
That he won back when they thought he’d save the world
Back when the girls liked Johnny
More than anyone ‘cept maybe Elton John
She wonders where’s her little boy
With the braces and the red suspenders gone
Just life …

Thanks, im6! Unfortunately video not available 😦 So far I’ve listened to a 30 sec clip and a nice cover. Great song! I’ll continue to search for the original later. Just life, mom, just life …
Kat, despite 6 hours time difference you’re even too early for me, I’ll be back later… Meanwhile HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you all!

im6,
I also looked up the lyrics and found them sad and, as you wrote, heart rending.

Birgit,
Gracie was sick and I heard her and woke up at 1 then when she fell back to sleep I did too, but then at 2 she woke up again. I came downstairs with her and was up until nearly 4. I figured I might as well do Coffee then. Gracie seemed better so we went to bed but she woke me up again around 7. She has been gulping and salivating and had tried to eat parts of my spider plant so I also fed her some spider plant fronds. Right now, at 8:30, she is sleeping and snoring. Good for her, but I’m exhausted.
