“Go, and redeem some other promising young creature, but leave me to keep Christmas in my own way.”

Last night the rain started and didn’t stop until late this morning, but it was a short dry spell. The rain started again about 20 minutes ago. It is colder than it has been, 41˚, and tonight will be in the 30’s. Gracie and I just got back from the dump. Going in the rain is the best time for the dump as few people venture. Trash can wait. There were just three other cars. Luckily the rain had stopped when we left the house. I dumped my recycles and trash and left. As soon as I got through the gate, the rain started again in earnest, regular wiper speed a necessity. The day is raw cold.

Yesterday I was Hazel, the maid and filled the bird feeders, cleaned the fridge, swept the floor, washed the dog bowls and placemat, did two loads of laundry and even brought both loads upstairs. I dusted the den using the sleeve of my sweatshirt, always a handy tool for dusting, and polished a couple of tables. I was not meant for menial labor.

I am a woman of very few words today. I haven’t seen anybody or done anything interesting. I did watch A Christmas Carol last night, my favorite with Alastair Sim. It was retro Thursday on the Hallmark Channel. I do love this movie and his welfare, his reclamation if you will.

I read an article about Scrooge called Diagnosing Scrooge Syndrome. According to the author Scrooge suffered from Post-Traumatic Embitterment Disorder, not yet official in the DSM-V, only proposed. “PTED will, if included, probably apply to a person experiencing, witnessing or being directly confronted with a highly traumatic event or events leading to chronic (longer than three months minimally, but more realistically, at least one year) feelings of embitterment.” The article is a long one so I won’t quote all of it here, but dear old Ebenezer, according to the author, saves himself through his interactions with the ghosts. That part I agree with, but humbug I say about the rest of the article. Some things needn’t be analyzed.

I’m now visualizing Rudolph on the couch, his red nose bright, his eyes filled with tears as he relates the story of being ridiculed and harassed. I won’t even mention Santa.

One commercial on tv told us that it still isn’t too late to make home look nice for Christmas. I can’t agree more, after all it is over a month left till Christmas 🙂 🙂 I have no idea what they wanted me to buy though 🙂 🙂

I do like a Christmas Carol and I especially like Scrooged with Bill Murray, and particular the ghost of Christmas Present 🙂

But no Christmas without watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, no Christmas without it 🙂

Grey and dull but very warm for this time of year. It looks like You’ll get winter before us this year too.

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

      My Dear Hedley,
Beside being adorable, I love their sentiment!

      Christer,
The TV is filled with Christmas commercials selling stuff. It is too much too soon. I wish they’d wait until after Thanksgiving.

In the Bill Murray, I always chuckle when he says to staple the antlers to the mice (I think they’re mice).

I love National Lampoon’s Christmas. My must see movie is The Christmas Story.

      Cold and getting colder-20’s later.

Have a warm and cozy evening!

    Hi Kat,
Your post made me giggle. I would like a Hazel of my own. Fall has finally arrived, with some rain. I dislike it when it gets dark so early.
I also with they would wait till after Thanksgiving… although I am such a procrastinator my gift will probably come near the NY…
I’m getting bored, I need some new books.
    Waving,

      Hi Lori,
It has stopped raining, but it is getting colder. Winter is trying to grab hold.

I’m glad it made you laugh!

I have several gifts already but i have to sit down and make a list so I’ll know what I need.

I’m reading a book by James Rollins. I like it. I got 3 books at the library on Wednesday.

      Waving,
      Kat

      Thanks, Christer!!!
I enjoyed the preview. Knowing I’m probably going to be enjoying the day I’ll set my DVR so I won’t miss this.

I figured Cara was gone for good so her being there surprises me a bit.

Another reason to look forward to Christmas!

    Hi Kat,
I suppose telling someone that they have PTED is much more polite than just calling them a bitter old fart. 🙂

It didn’t rain here last night. It frosted. Heavily. It looked like it had snowed. I heard a truck go by the house earlier in the evening. It sounded like a snowplow or salt truck but I dismissed that as inconceivable. But a few hours later I woke up and glanced out the window to see the ground completely covered in white stuff. It was mostly gone by morning, though. Now it’s sunny and cold.
The cold has had a positive side effect though. Piki Dog finally decided it was okay to poop in the yard instead of two streets up under a bush. He had to be taken way to the back of the yard but it’s a start.

    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
I got a chuckle out the whole article, and I do agree with you.

We had neither rain nor frost last night. It was cold but above freezing. According to the 11 o’clock news, the Cape was one of only two spots which wouldn’t go below freezing.

Piki Dog is well on the way! The cold may deter him from wanting to wander to his favorite poop spot. Gracie is quicker on cold days.

My sister Maureen in Colorado had -15 the other night. Too cold too soon!

      Have a great day!
