The Wizard of Oz movie and the song Somewhere Over a The Rainbow came out in 1939 as the Nazis were persecuting at he Jews of Germany. The lyrics was written by Yip Harburg and may have had a meaning more poignant than just wizards and the land of Oz. Here’s an interesting take on the song and even the movie.

Bob,
I found that article extremely interesting. I wouldn’t have thought that the song has poignant subtleties, but I see then now.

The mark of a truly great song has to be when I go to my hard drive and enter “over the rainbow” and about 75 different versions of this song are listed. Everything from Streisand and Sinatra to Rolf Harris (Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport!) and Jerry Lee Lewis. Here’s one of my favorites…

I totally understand why this is one of your favorites. It is lovely. I hadn’t ever heard it before this, and I’m loving it.
