If you think I’m not going to reply to this one, you’re crazy. As you know, PDP is just about my favorite band of all time — even besting The Beatles and The Beach Boys. And this song serves as the perfect example of just why I feel that way and why I’ve been to probably 25-30 of their shows. This song is even more poignant because it’s about the singer/writer’s mother, Elizabeth, who died when he was young. ‘Pulling Touch’ is from around 1985 when they were still based in Austin (after Hawaii and before Chicago). They’re still playing occasional shows and drawing packed, packed, packed houses and still have a rabid fan base, not making much money, but making lots of people very happy. The leader, Frank Orrall, is also now a chef (Chef Franc) and will come to your house and cook dinner for up to 20 people. I love this band so much. Here’s another tune from around the same time with the Austin crew (there are often anywhere from 13 to 30 people on stage). Looking at this video makes me so wistful. They’re all so young and exuberant and just how I remember them busking on the streets before their shows.

im6,
This was fun not only to hear but also to watch.

im6,
I expected a comment as I knew they were your favorites out of all other but my choosing this song was pure serendipity.
I didn’t know the background of it so thanks for that. I looked them up and saw the many musicians who have been part of this group over the years and in different home bases.
It was you who introduced me to them, and I’m thankful for that too. They have such a varied, different sound.

Okay, I can’t resist posting just one more. If this doesn’t make you grin from ear to ear and make you want to dance, well close the lid on the casket ’cause you’re dead.

im6,
Here we go with coincidences again. This was the first song I listened to for posting but decided to go with the other one.
What a great video.

Find a way to work “Collarbone” in. You’ll love it.

Thanks, Scott
Given my luck it might just be a broken bone opportunity!

I believe I misspoke earlier. Upon reflection, I think maybe it was the song, “Wood Guitar,” which is about Frank’s mother, Elizabeth. Details are important.
