Perhaps (probably) this song doesn’t work for Pet because it’s one of the rare numbers not produced by Tony Hatch. Together they made magic. You can certainly tell the difference. http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=13882
im6,
Do you know how long it took me to find animals songs for today? I know there are a lot out there but I just couldn’t find the right one so I figured I wouldn’t be so far off the mark with Pet.
Not faulting your song choice, Kat. But can you believe I’m actually agreeing with Hedley? Wonders never cease! I tried to find some more cat songs…. “Honky Cat,” “Year of the Cat,” etc… Unfortunately I couldn’t find a good video of Manhattan Transfer doing their version of this song. Hope this will do:
Kat, I don’t disagree with you other than I don’t think the problem is with k.d.’s voice. I may have even ranted about it here before…. k.d. should never be allowed to write another song again. She’s a terrible, terrible songwriter, yet she continues to write and sing those songs and doing so has really damaged her reputation in my opinion. One line repeated over and over again does not a song make. She needs to stick to the classics (although I’m not sure I consider “What’s New Pussycat?” a classic!)
im6,
I’m putting in my vote that “What’s New Pussycat?” is not a classic no matter who sings it.
I guess I wonder why she doesn’t see the difference between before her own songs and after in regard to her popularity. I was always struck by the power of her voice. It was amazing.

and the edge was off Pet, suddenly she was easy listening, way too many strings.
Pour Moi (that’s French you know) Pet was at her best Downtown or in the Subway. But then again who would not love the gal from Epsom ?

im6,
This is a fun song, and I do think I have had songs by them before. I do like the old ones!
Thanks!

My Dear Hedley,
I think she was her best Downtown, but I wouldn’t argue with her singing about anywhere.
Her voice did get lost in all the strings.

IF you felt it necessary to do a cat song, why didn’t you go with ..
Tom Jones “What’s new Pussycat ?”

MDH,
I just couldn’t bring myself to post it.

Whoa, whoa
Pussycat, Pussycat, you’re delicious
And if my wishes
Can all come true
I’ll soon be kissing your sweet little pussycat lips!
Why not ?

I haven’t ever been a Tom Jones fan.

Can’t deal with The Welshman? How ’bout Miss k.d. lang?
September 5, 2014 at 5:45 pm
im6,
I used to be a big k.d. Lang fan but not lately. Her voice doesn’t seem to have that power it always had.
I like this better than Tom. Thanks!

My vote is that Tom Jones’ version is a classic.

MDH,
im6 will have to break this tie.

Drumroll, please… I’m a huge Bacharach fan, but this is definitely NOT a classic. Perhaps if Lenny would do a version, I might change my vote.
September 5, 2014 at 6:54 pm
Not only did im6 come down on the side of not a classic, he also brought Lennie into the mix.
September 5, 2014 at 7:39 pm
It’s not unusual for im6 to side with Katmar….
I do hope that KTCC is preparing properly for Lennie’s 80th…starting perhaps with the deck movie being Risky Business.

MDH,
Sadly we have no movie scheduled for tomorrow night as the weather report is for thunder showers.
im6 disagrees as readily as he agrees.
