They thought they were in a paddy wagon, but no, they were being taken to the cleaners.

Gnu,
I love Wednesdays and look forward to the songs you choose. They are all my era or a little before. I get to sing a long with most of them. Today was a great selection and ending with Nancy Sinatra was pure genius.
Thanks so much for making my Wednesdays special!!

Gnu,
I remember this really well. I couldn’t have told you the singer’s name, but I can still sing a long. I love the lyrics,” My steady boy said ship ahoy and joined the naaaavy.”

Gnu,
This one I don’t remember at all. She has a bit of a Brenda Lee voice. The video is strange with the scaffolding or whatever it is and the multiple shots of her among them. The teens dancing are really well dressed so I know this is 50’s or early 60’s. I recognize that dance they’re doing.

I’ve never noticed the similarity before, but Genevieve Waite sure sounds a lot like Ms. Sad Movies Always Make Her Cry. I’ve shared some Genevieve before… she’s the former wife of former “Papa” John Phillips.

im6,
I just listened to Sad Movies and the similarity is striking. I do remember her because of the John Phillips connection.

Gnu,
This is one of the all time great girl groups, one of my favorites. I grooved on it when it was first released and still do. That’s a great cover. I love the placement of their feet and the red heels.

I still can’t believe George Harrison got sued over this song and paid $587,000!!! From Wikipedia:
On February 10, 1971, Bright Tunes Music Corporation filed suit alleging that the current George Harrison hit “My Sweet Lord” was a plagiarism of “He’s So Fine”. The case did not go to trial until February 1976 when the judge ruled on the liability portion of the suit in favor of Bright Tunes, determining that Harrison was guilty of “subconscious” plagiarism. The suit to determine damages was scheduled for November 1976 but delayed until February 1981, by which time Allen Klein, Harrison’s onetime manager who had been his legal adviser in the first phase of the suit, had become the plaintiff by virtue of purchasing Bright Tunes. The final decision was that Harrison himself would purchase Bright Tunes from Klein for $587,000—the amount Klein had paid for the corporation—and although litigation continued for at least ten more years that decision was upheld.

im6,
This is the first I’ve ever heard of this. I’m singing My Sweet Lord in my head while my ears listen to this. I guess I can hear a faint resemblance but nothing worth all that money. I love the idea of subconscious plagiarism. Klein should have planned better and make money on the deal.

Gnu,
Another great song! I went looking to find out about the uniforms.
“Founding members Walter Vickers (guitar) and Rodney Taylor (drums) were members or the United States Marine Corps stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After being transferred to Camp LeJeune in North Carolina, they enlisted fellow Marines Billy Hill and Rudolph Johnson as group members. Next they added a female lead singer, Anita Humes, another Marine.”
I also read their vinyls are collectors’ items.

Gnu,
I remember this one really well. Are those kazoos?
I am amazed at how extensive her career has been. This is the only song I remember yet she did so many and also many TV appearances including game shows in the 60’s.

I love Joanie… she thinks young! (obscure reference to her singing the Pepsi “For Those Who Think Young” jingle) She really did have an extensive career and eventually became known as essentially a jazz vocalist. She also did a damn fine version of my favorite song of all time:

im6,
I haven’t ever heard her version of this, and I like it. I was totally surprised she was the Pepsi voice as I didn’t remember it at all.
This is not my favorite song but is among my top 10. I don’t think I can name a favorite, maybe Chelsea Morning because of the beautiful imagery and the memories as it was in Ghana with me and played all the time.

Gnu,
Yesterday I was trying to guess what you might find to play today. I guessed none of these.
This one makes me laugh as it is really awful despite how popular it was. If the dresses were any shorter, they’d be shirts.
Thank you again for making my Wednesdays. I love checking out what you’ve posted. I get a day’s vacation and am totally entertained as well.
