Oh, the JA… one of those groups I keep forgetting I like so much. And this is from one of my very favorite albums of all time, “Surrealistic Pillow.” If any of your readers have somehow missed listening to the entire album, I strongly suggest they remedy that. The JA are typecast as just a bunch of psychedelic hippies. And while they are that, “…Pillow” demonstrates how they could do much, much more. “Today,” “Coming Back To Me,” “My Best Friend” are all lovely, lovely tender songs. And Marty Balin could sing with the best of them. Their other albums all had great songs on them, but “…Pillow” is perfection from start to finish.

      im6,
You don’t hear JA played often so it is easy to forget them, but then one song plays, and you remember how much you liked them.

I never really thought of them as psychedelic hippies even later on when flower power seemed to take hold. Their music just didn’t fit that image.

      I love this album.

    Dear im6,
Down my rabbit hole we were pretty much insulated from the plane-starship and any albums that crept through tending to be ugly compilations and not reflective of what you were listening to. I guess Radio London or Caroline did provide some Slick airtime but it just wasn’t very much on our radar.
