“‘Tis healthy to be sick sometimes.”

The pain got bad enough that I went to the CareWell Urgent Care clinic yesterday. The nurse practitioner said all she could do was give me something for the pain and something for possible infection. I almost kissed her. The pills and the gel seem to be keeping the pain at bay for a few hours then I need more. Last night I slept well. This morning I was industrious: I showered, changed my bed, washed the winter quilt, watered the outside plants and put the screen in the front door. Just about then the industry disappeared and the pain reappeared. I took some pills and a nap, but, as my mother would say, I am not feeling up to par.

I am taking a day of sick leave. Coffee, I hope, will return tomorrow.

      im6,
I really don’t have time, but it is out of my hands (poor joke I know, but the pain is warping my sense of humor).

      Thanks!

    Hi Kat,
Rest up. Tomorrow the dentist will fix it.

      Hi Caryn,
I really hope so. The only issue is the blood thinner I take which may mean a delay of 4-5 days.

If you have them all pulled, then … no more problems!
    … make a bracelet?

    Cheers

      minicapt,
In my younger, much younger days, I had 2 impacted wisdom teeth removed and then made them into earrings for Halloween. They were really gross.

Fire up The Lennie, settle in and watch Boston Sox at The Detroit Tigers – you should feel better in no time.

    You are welcome

Once several decades ago I had an abscessed tooth on Memorial Day weekend. The pain was so bad I went to the emergency room at Parkland hospital. Yes, the same one where Predident Kennedy died. I walked in late Saturday night among the gun shot wounds and stab victims. I stood at the entrance to the treatment area holding my paperwork in hand standing among people lying on rolling beds along the walls bandaged up with IV bags hanging from poles. The Doctor at the end of the room called out to me, “What’s wrong with you?” I sheepishly called back, “A tooth ache”. He and the other seriously injured patients began to laugh which caused some of them pain. He looked in my mouth and said there was nothing he could do except Give me an envelope of several pain pills and a prescription for more. I got me through the weekend until I could go to the dentist.

I understand what you are going through.

      Bob,
As mine was a clinic and this is Cape Cod, the worst injury I saw was a woman with bandages on her arm who was complaining the top was too tight, and she needed it loosened.

I would have been embarrassed at the laughter but would have totally understood it. Sheepishly is the perfect word.

I got a prescription for pain pills and an antibiotic. First thing I do is call my dentist tomorrow morning. I don’t know what there are no emergency dentists.

That’s what the ER doc told me. This was 1968. Dallas was still a small town back then.

As my dentist used to sing while he gave me the Novocain injection , “It only hurts for a little while”. 🙂

        Feel better!

        Bob,
Just what I need-a singing dentist!

Try going to Parkland with a kidney stone (only I didn’t know it was a kidney stone at the time). Since there was no blood or obvious traumatic injury, I was hardly a priority for them. After 9 hours of no one seeing me, I was eventually curled up on the floor writhing in agony when some nurse finally came over and said, “You look like you don’t feel so good.” I had no idea what was wrong with me (feared it was a burst appendix) and told her, “I think I’m going to die.” That was in the mid-70s and I still would never suggest anyone go to Parkland (whether you’re POTUS or not). It really IS unbelievably and indescribably painful.

        im6,
Are there other choices? I think I would have been tossed out as I would have raised hell long before the nine hours. The Cape Cod Hospital sees people in order unless there is an emergency which get immediate attention. I was brought there in an ambulance because of my massively high blood pressure and the A Fib (that was when I found out I had it). I got seen right away. Next time grab your chest like Redd Foxx used to do.

Next time? Next time? Please don’t wish that on me. I did have another attack 35 years later and knew what it was and was immediately hospitalized and had surgery the next day. But at Parkland, I had no idea what was happening. It was the nearest hospital to me and I didn’t have insurance at that time (had just started my first “real” job a couple of days before!). It was the place where the uninsured went and the trauma center where all the accident/shooting/mayhem victims were taken. Big city hospitals are not for sissies!

Parkland is the free county hospital and I lived close to that hospital. I didn’t have medical insurance in those days.

      • katry's avatar katry Says:

        im6,
NO,NO, I didn’t wish a next time on you.I was just thinking if you had a stubbed toe or an ingrown toenail.

      • katry's avatar katry Says:

        Bob,
That was the same with im6 and his visit to Parkland.
