Nice song. Reminds me of Simon and Garfunkel, which is no surprise because I’m just watching their 1981 Central Park concert on TV. Sentimental memories, the album was a present by friends on my 18th (legal age) birthday.
Same nice warm weather over here.

      Birgit,
I listened again after I read your comment, but I didn’t hear Simon and Garfunkel in their voices but certainly thought their lyrics were very S&G. “A panoply of song.”

Never thought of S&G, but the Decemberists are perhaps the most literate of current bands. “Panoply of song”? Who writes that? Very cool. Harmonica at the end of “June Hymn” reminds me of Blue Rodeo, a Canadian group you would like a lot.

      Jay Bird,
I think I have a Blue Rodeo album on my back-up hard drive from my old computer. I’ll give it a look.

      I love their lyrics.

Speaking of Canadians… I spent the 90s living up on the US-Canadian border, and there was some excellent music coming from the north in that era: Blue Rodeo, Great Big Sea (“Canada’s House Band” and the best acoustic group I’ve ever heard live); Barenaked Ladies; Alanis; Jann Arden; Tragically Hip; Sarah McLachlan. All better than Bieber!

        Jay Bird,
I love Great Big Sea and have played them a few times here on Coffee but not for a while-thanks for the reminder. I don’t know Jann Arden so it sounds like it’s time for a hunt and a listen.

I am surprised by the bands which don’t get across the border-some of them just superb.

I too would use tragically to describe Sarah McLachlan

Jann Arden had a couple of hits in the 90’s; nothing special. Lord, I forgot Canadian Shania Twain, who burst forth in the 90’s. I’m not a country fan, but that genre had some awesome women break out in the 1990’s. I’ve got a Great Big Sea category in iTunes! They were too folky and provincial (Maritimes) to draw much U.S. interest, but they were huge in Canada.

        Jay Bord,
No Shania Twain fan here so forgetting her was no big deal for me. People seemed to like the GBS music I posted regardless of its origins.
