“I wonder what it would be like to live in a world where it was always June.”

Today is a glorious spring day filled with warm sunshine and deep blue skies. I just came back from driving my friends to the bus stop in Barnstable, and the ride home was a joy. The trees along the highway are leafy and are so many different colors of green. Hawks were riding the thermals. No one was in a hurry. When I got off the highway close to home, I saw people walking their dogs, runners along the bike path and bike riders along the road. The warmth of the sun is like a magnet drawing us out of our cool, dark houses. The sun on the deck is waiting for me.

I have memories of Junes long past, of transitions and changes. It was always the month ushering in the freedom of summer days. It was the month of graduations, of moving from one place in my life to another. I left for Ghana in June on a journey which changed my life. I came home two years later in June with experiences to hold for a lifetime. June is when the cape finally wakes from winter, when the flowers all bloom and the air smells fragrant. It is no wonder I count June as my favorite month.

The laundry has made it down to this floor. It is by the cellar door. It may get done today or maybe not. It depends on how long I can stand seeing it lying there. Sometimes I need to do things right away, the laundry obviously not one of those things. This morning it was sweeping the kitchen floor. When I was making the coffee, I noticed dust in the corners and bits of dry dog food around Gracie’s bowl. I lasted only through one cup of coffee then took out the broom. I couldn’t take it any more.

I have decided how to spend my day. I will do nothing but sit in the sun, sip a cold drink and read. The laundry in the hall will just fine for another day or two.

We’ve had much the same kind of day here but at least two mowed their lawns today. One was the neighbor across the field I know this even if I didn’t see it because she has a riding mower that is in such a bad shape I’m surprised it even starts and it sounds like a big harvester 🙂 The other one was the closest neighbor.

They just came home from being away with their caravan for three days. They don’t talk much as it is and today theyu were absolutely quiet from the moment they got out of the car. The first thing he does is to take out the mower and start mowing the lawn. To be honest, it is so dry here now that the grass hasn’t grown at all so there was no use in doing it 🙂

I do have problems understanding people that are so obcessed with their lawns, especially since their lawn is full of weeds 🙂 🙂

May have always been my favorite month, that was the first month we went to our summer cottage and stayed there for the weekend after winter and since my family was filled with gardeners we all kept an eye on what started to grow and flower.

I did do the laundry early this morning but that was as much work as I did.

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

      Christer,
My lawn was mowed yesterday as was my neighbor’s across the street. We both use the same company (my neighbor’s company).

My lawn looks good. It has been fertilized so no weeds, and the irrigation system waters it every day at 5 in the morning.

We were usually in school in May, and we seldom went away even when school was out. I would have enjoyed having a cottage.

Sure, show me up by doing your laundry!!

      Have a great evening.

This is such a wonderful song and SOOOO evokes the early 70s for me. I’ve included it on many a “mix tape” and am always glad to hear it when it comes ’round. I was lucky enough to see IABD in concert and they were fantastic — much better than their live albums would leave you to believe. But then I had probably taken a little herbal medication before the show. If memory serves, they were the opening act for Seals and Crofts. Can’t get much more 70s than that!

        im6,
I would never have remembered either the song or the singers, but once it started playing, I knew the words. I went back a lot of years while listening.

      greg,
I haven’t ever posted them or it-even forgot about this song.

I love listening again as it has been years since I last heard it. Thanks for adding the perfect song for today!

    Hi Kat,
The first day of the month is when I sit down to pay the bills. And that is what I did today except it got a bit discouraging after a while. I wandered outside and decided to dig up another part of my useless piece of grass in front of the house. Things were going well and then I struck pavement. Not the asphalt sidewalk kind of pavement. This was of white tiles about 4×4 inches.
I dug around for a bit to see if I could loosen them but they go under the sidewalk. They are stacked on top of each other but each layer is only one tile high like shingling on a roof. It doesn’t seem like a very good walkway. Very toe-catching, I think. I buried them again and planted grass seed over the area. But I recalled that 40 years ago, my father’s Peke, Leroy, was scratching around over there and uncovered 3 of these tiles set in the ground.

It’s sunny and balmy up here. A lovely day for sitting on the top step and watching the neighborhood go by.
    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
I do bills within the first week, a job I also find discouraging.

Today was a lazy day. I took a nap, watched the Sox win another and sat outside for a while. The pollen finally drove me back inside because of all the sneezing I did.

Skip is coming on Tuesday to clean up the herb and veggie garden, plant, clear off the deck and put out all the summer stuff. I have to plant and pot shop tomorrow which is always fun.

What were white tiles originally for?

We had the same lovely day here.

      Have a great evening!

I have no idea. I’ve lived in this house my whole life so far and there was never anything out in front that was tiled in white.
The rows I saw were shingled but not in a way that would be good for people to walk on. Too trippy.
Could have something to do with drainage. The original owners had a thing for dry wells underneath the downspouts and there is one sort of in that area.
They are over 4 inches down in the soil so they’ve been there a long time.
When the dog Leroy uncovered the other three back in the 70’s, even my father was mystified.

        Caryn,
Yankee Magazine used to have a column where you could send in a picture someone could identify and explain. Maybe try that.

The battle was long and intense, last night the Prince said I should stay home as I would be so scared. Every few minutes during the movie we were pointing at each other across Grandma MDH as Angelina Jolie unleashed her fury. We both liked Maleficent, we have been planting flowers, riding bikes, visiting the bank and hanging out.

I asked him who in his family could give him the true love kiss and he immediately responded, his Mum, but Pumpa made it in at second just ahead of Grandma MDH.

When I am nine we are going to London, right Pumpa ? Yes Prince we are going.

      My Dear Hedley,
I thought it looked scary when I saw promos on TV, but I’m glad you both didn’t scare easily.

      Second is good!

      Reassurances are good.
