30 Comments on “Would You Like to Swing on a Star: Dave von Ronk”
I’ve never heard this version of this song, and it is one of my favorites. I’ll be humming it all day, as I swing on my star, trying to figure out where or who I’ve heard this song before.
Bob,
Bing first sang it in 1944 in Going My Way. This version is from 1968. Frank’s was made in 1964. The song has been covered by so many it would take a while to list them.
Thanks Kat.
I’m glad you enjoyed it again, and so many others discovered via Coffee.

PS I know I haven’t commented in a while. Still read and listen regularly. Thanks!

MDH,
I am sure you are meaning Lake Como, because it was Crosby!

Yea, but my boy Perry Como did a killer cover version…..Como ruled.

MDH,
He seemed so gently and so laid back. I would never miss his Christmas shows. Loved those sweaters of his and his Ave Maria.

I should have known that, Bob. It is also the name of one of his son’s.

Kat, I’m not sure what we looked forward to most during the summer season at Meadowbrook in the early 80s, Andy Williams, Victor Borge or Perry Como.

MDH,
I’m with you and Andy and Perry but not Victor.

Lori,
My first was Bing Crosby, and I’ve loved the song since then. It definitely can produce an ear worm.
I love the words and the sentiment.

I’ve never heard this version either. I think the version I am familiar with was by Frank Sinatra. Either way it’s a great song.

Trivia question: what was Bing’s real first name? No fair looking it up on Google 🙂
