HELP!!!
I have been sitting here for 45 minutes listening to what I like to call Noel Paul Stookey song snippets in an attempt to find music for today. Nothing I heard appealed to me. I am stuck and here’s where you come in. Any of you have a favorite song or one you haven’t heard in forever? I’m willing to post Coffee Family Favorites today and save what I don’t post for other days.
Help me out here!

Greg,
I have money in a few music downloads sites, and I don’t often use them as I have so many songs in my files. It was a pleasure to download this one for you. No waiting here for favorites!
Thanks so much for the offer!

Thank you Kat, it is not un-hot here in Naples
Maggie is staying at the doggie doctor, she has a cornea on her eye and not responding to autobiotics…we are a bit panicked, I shouldn’t read the internet

MDH,
I know that panic. I hope all will be well with Maggie. Please put in the loop.

What about a song for our great KTCC lady Kat?
Sandy Denny – The Lady (The BBC Sessions 1971-73)
“The lady, she had a silver tongue […]
The lady she had a golden heart […]
On a beautiful morning of silver and gold”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLv5kR4jrTo
(Sorry, bad sound but best version. Not the BBC 1971 version.)
If you ever need a really hot song in July, you should consider Terry Reid – July (1969).
Btw, 2 of my all-time favorite songs.
May 23, 2014 at 1:53 pm
Thank you, Birgit. Sandy Denny has long been a favorite of mine. I put both songs you mentioned in my Family folder!

Something people will either love or hate, but I think it’s fun and a sunny way to start the holiday weekend. From one of my all-time favorite albums produced by her then husband, Papa John Phillips.

im6,
I love it! The song is fun and saucy.
I haven’t ever heard of her before this. It will be added to the list even though people can hear it on the video. I want this for my collection.

Kat, you couldn’t find something from Noel Stookey??? How about, like, anything?
His “El Salvador” is great, but with Memorial Day coming on you could get in trouble. How about “Right Field” in honor of baseball season?
May 23, 2014 at 6:54 pm
Ted,
I have a whole album of his music but was taken to task by him for posting it without permission so I had to take it down. A whole slew of comments from Coffee regulars got his attention, and he wrote and said I was welcome to post any 30 second excerpt. I thanked him and said no. It was quite the correspondence.
It seems I can post Peter, Paul and Mary without him complaining but that’s because I don’t list their names.

Oh, well. He really is a nice guy, though. He lives not too far from me, in Blue Hill Maine, and was instrumental in getting our community radio station set up years ago in his converted “Henhouse” recording studio. Eclectic station, lots of music you’d like, in fact my wife has a jazz show Monday nights. WERU.org on the web if you’re interested, or 89.9 when you’re in midcoast or downeast Maine. I went to a concert by him at MDI High School nearby, back in the 80s, heard him sing El Salvador and thought, “He’s back!”

Ted,
WOMR is a community station out of P-town, and I listen often. It plays an interesting variety of music and has fun DJ’s.
I have bookmarked WERU as I like to listen while I do other stuff on line.
I will always love PP&M and I do like all of their single albums, including his. He was nice enough to tell me to take the song down. He could have been nasty about it.
May 24, 2014 at 4:23 pm
I should have mentioned that one of my favorite programs on WERU is “Saturday Morning Coffeehouse.” Four different hosts alternate, but my favorites are Cousin Phil (he’s also my piano tuner) and Chuck Markowitz. A lot of the stuff you play, Stan Rogers, Gordon Bok, etc. The shows are recorded so you can pick and choose a podcast if you get a minute. There’s also live streaming. I’ll check into WOMR.
May 24, 2014 at 6:25 pm
Ted,
I went and checked the playlists of a few Saturday Morning Coffeehouses, and I think I could have played any one of the songs. They are all in my song files. What great choices!
May 24, 2014 at 10:23 pm
WOMR looks pretty similar to WERU. Some of the same news programming, folk, jazz, bluegrass, roots, soul, etc. And you have a ukulele show???
My wife does the Monday night Jazz Scene on weru, alternating with another person. Check out the playlist under Jeri Spurling if you’re into jazz.
Her brother is moving to Plymouth this fall. If we visit him I’ll see if we can tune in to womr.
May 24, 2014 at 10:31 pm
Ted,
Community radio stations are vanishing treasures. The shows are the personalities of the DJ’s. I haven’t ever listened to the ukelele show. Mostly I listen in the afternoon or when I’m in the car doing errands. I alternate with NPR. My favorite DJ is Lady Di. He is so much fun.

You are so cruel. 400 songs in my “folk” genre in iTunes and I have to pick ONE?
OK, here’s an oddball pick with a cool backstory: Lightfoot’s “High and Dry” from his Sundown album. A real rouser! Gordon didn’t use much harmony, and never had a female back-up, except here.
His harmonist was one Cathy Smith, his mistress and pusher in the mid-70’s. She later did time for giving the fatal speedball injection to John Belushi. Gord’s crew said she was the scariest woman they’d ever met!
May 23, 2014 at 7:11 pm
Jay Bird,
I won’t limit you to one. That would be too cruel. I have this Lightfoot and have put it on the Family list. If you want a couple more feel free.
Thanks for the extra info. I found that really interesting.

If we’re talking Gordie – Summer Side of Life. One of my favorites that doesn’t seem to be well known.
May 24, 2014 at 12:07 pm
Scott,
I posted it a while back but will be happy to repost. I never say no to Gordie!

Kat – check out my FB Wall from this evening (Friday). Lots of good Poi Dog Pondering music. Who? Bet you’d like them – I can get you any files you need. I’m going to see them in Phoenix tomorrow night! 😀
May 24, 2014 at 12:04 pm
Scott,
Considering I haven’t a single song of theirs I’m more than happy to have a few. I went to your FB page and listened to Living with the Dreaming Body. I love them. Their music is bright and almost spritely. I’ll listen to the rest you’ve posted later today.
Wow!
May 24, 2014 at 2:57 am
Who is scott04073? Poi Dog is just about my favorite band of all time. I’ve seen them about 20 times (used to live in Chicago). Would love to see what songs you posted. I liked the old Austin lineup best of all when Dave was in the band, but they’ve still done some fabulous later stuff. Say hi to Frank Saturday night!

im6,
Scott is a long time Coffee regular. I hope he reads this so you two can connect. If not, I’ll do the introduction!
