“I’ve seen enough horror movies to know that any weirdo wearing a mask is never friendly.”

The mornings have a routine. I make coffee, get the papers, give the cats and the dog their treats, have a cup of coffee while I read each paper and then get dressed. The rest of the day is open. I like my mornings. The cats and the dog have their own routines. Fern and Gracie greet me when I wake up and then follow me downstairs where Maddie is waiting for attention. Gracie goes out, barks a bit and squats. Fern lies in the sun and Maddie stays beside me on the couch. Within a short time, all three of them are having morning naps. I suspect they like their mornings too.

The weather has been perfectly lovely with lots of sun, temperatures in the 60’s and chilly nights for cozy sleeping. The leaves are all open on the oak trees, the lilacs have flowers and the front garden is beginning to bloom. I’m itching to go flower shopping.

Monsters were big when I was a kid. We had the Mummy, Frankenstein, the Wolfman, the Invisible Man and insects the size of a city building. Most were scary because I was young. My brother was even afraid of Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty. He hid under his seat at the movies. But as I got older, they stopped being scary. I had learned the difference between real and pretend. I admit I jumped when the head appeared in the hole in the sunken boat in Jaws. I also jumped when I saw Aliens and a creature leapt at the test tube. I think most people in the theater jumped. Afterwards, we all chuckled in a sort of reflex action.

I yell at the TV during some scary movies. When a character says, “I’ll go check it out,” I yell in warning. He will be next to go, no question about it. In one movie, there was blood up the stairs on the wall, and off he went to check it out. He never made it downstairs. As fort me, blood on the wall would have me running in the opposite direction.

Not much of late scares me. Movies have become blood and mayhem and the number of corpses runs into the double digits. Zombies are being replaced by the living dead, a wonderful oxymoron. I remember my first of them: The Night of the Living Dead. I thought it was gross. I like The Walking Dead, but it too is gross. I do have a conundrum with that show. After the walkers attack and eat a person, how come that person doesn’t become a walker? My guess is they also eat the head, but you never see that, only the dining on the disgusting innards.

I still like a movie which scares me.

    Hi Kat,
My only routine in the morning is to wake up, swallow my medications, do the bathroom rituals and then let the dog out, if he has decided to wake up. Usually he lounges around in bed for a long while. He’s awake but he’s not moving. Lazy thing. 🙂 After that the morning is open. Sometimes I go out for breakfast and a nice stroll by the lake. Sometimes I just do stuff around the house. I kind of like not having a set routine.

I remember some monsters from my childhood when I liked that stuff. There was the Blood Rust and Godzilla and all the monsters that fought Godzilla. Mothera and Gidera and so forth. I loved the cheesy monsters on Space Family Robinson or whatever that was called. The aliens on the original Star Trek were kind of cheesy, too. None of them frightened me very much.

Today is beautiful. The sun is warm, the breeze is cool, there are big puffy white clouds floating in the sky. Rocky and I have been outside all morning. I was taking photographs and he was sniffing and peeing as usual.
Enjoy the rest of your day.

      Hi Caryn,
My mornings have always included coffee and the newspapers, all the way back to college. After that the blog then the rest of the day is unplanned. Gracie usually wants me up and I oblige but then she has that long morning nap.

I watched all those Japanese movie too mostly for the fun factor. They always looked so fake, especially the cities and the trains. None were ever scary. I don’t think the Star Trek aliens were meant to scare us, and many were definitely cheesy.

I have been taking it easy as my back as been so bad. Today it is good, but I will do nothing to aggravate it.

      Have a wonderful, lovely day!

So Maleficent is about to descend upon us, as Ms Jolly attempts to scare the bejeebers out of all of us. We are having dinner tonight with the Prince and I will be interested to see if he thinks Angie will be too scary for him.

As much as I enjoy a good Dalek, I was never much for horror slasher, stuff that comes out of the tummy or goes bump in the night type of shows. I did watch “Rush” over the weekend and was on the edge of the sofa as Hunt and Lauda went at it, even though I knew the story and exactly how it would end. It was fab, but who doesn’t like a race car movie ?

“Exterminate, Exterminate”…right, behind the sofa for me and two cushions please

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      My Dear Hedley,
My sister also asks her grandson about whether or not he’d be scared. He and The Prince are the same age. How great you get to see him for dinner. Does he haves a favorite meal?

Nope, I’m not into slasher movies either. They use blood to disguise the poor plots and bad characters. Screaming is the usual dialogue.

I haven’t seen Rush or even heard much about it. I’m not so sure that a race car movie would hold my attention for a long time.

      I find the cybermen scary.

      • Hedley's avatar Hedley Says:

We are meeting at the Alibi in Troy, and the Prince can demolish almost anything put in front of him.

I don’t want to take him to a movie that would upset him, Ms Jolly getting mean could be a lot of fun especially as it will be available in 3D.

Rush was a Ron Howard movie, racing cars, Brits, Austrians, Babes, cool music and racing cars. An excellent 2 hour show.

        MDH,
I hope you have a wonderful dinner!

Though I was older than The Prince is now, I still remember how scared I got when Vincent Price’s face fell off in the movie The Wax Museum.

Some of my favourite villains wreaking havoc in Doctor Who are ‘The Angels.’ What a clever idea! I found them to be scarier than the Daleks.

The Cybermen are also favourites of mine, Kat.

      Marie,
I would have used clips to keep my eyes from blinking. The teeth on those angels were really deadly looking.

My sister gave me a Cyperman in my stocking last Christmas, and I have a Dalek on my Christmas tree.

      • Vintage Spins's avatar Vintage Spins Says:

        Kat,
        Ouch!!!

It’s always been impossible for me to prevent ‘the blink.’ There were many times when I tried to stare down my mother and failed miserably.

        Marie

      • katry's avatar katry Says:

        Marie,
Oh no! The angels would be getting closer and closer. Perhaps the imminent danger would work wonders and stave off your blinks!

    • Hedley's avatar Hedley Says:

      Marie,

No, seriously, nothing was scarier than the Daleks.

Right after tea on a Saturday, they were in our living room announcing what they were going to do. the picture would go negative – positive and some poor unfortunate was on the pavement and done. Entire generations grew up behind the sofa.

Like Kat, I am rather fond of my Dalek Christmas tree ornament, and I have a rather impressive remote control Dalek which will chase the Westie around and yell exterminate.

      • Vintage Spins's avatar Vintage Spins Says:

Don’t get me wrong, Hedley, I think the Daleks are very entertaining and I enjoy their appearances on the series. I find them more amusing than scary though – maybe I’d feel differently if I’d seen them when I was a kid. I’m too jaded and spoiled by brain-eating zombies and such now. 😉

We didn’t actually see them – we were behind the sofa 🙂

I loved these furry funny monsters.

In between thunderstorms here so I don’t have much time.

I can’t see horror movies, they tend to stuck in my head. I saw Alien and it scared me to the thin line of insanity 🙂 I had nightmares for over a year. I saw Arachnophobia, which really is a hilarious movie, while I suffered from it myself and that wasn’t a good idea 🙂 🙂 I’ve seen it aftyer I got rid of my spider fear and I loved it 🙂

I don’t count those old horror movies we often talk about here though, they are just charming even if they did scare me as a kid.

    Thunder is coming back!

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Christer,
      You know I love thunderstorms!

At least in Arachnophobia all you see is people sucked dry, no blood. I was lucky as I didn’t really have too many scary moments watching movies except one I still remember. Vincent Price’s face falling off in TheWax Museum scared me enough I ran from my room where I was watching it to my parents’ room.

The old creature movies will always be favorites of mine!

      Have a wonderful evening!!

What? No mention of the running to the mat on The Amazing Race? Trying to forget Team Brenchel are we? I just laughed and laughed. How could you possibly root for those two? Rachel made such as a@@ of herself and the thought of her being some poor child’s mother frightens me. As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t know what Brendan sees in her. He’s supposedly quite intelligent, but I guess he’s just not very smart. Found it odd there was no memory quiz on the last leg (this is the first time, I believe). If there had been one, it’s quite likely Team B would have won the race. I thought it was very sweet seeing Dave and Connor win and very moving when Connor’s cancer was discussed, but I wish Daddy D would shut up about being so old. 58. Is. Not. Old.

    Hope you’re feeling better, Kat.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      im6,
I was disappointed by the winners, the father mostly. The son seemed like a good guy. His constant talk about being old also drove me crazy then I found out how old he really is, and he certainly isn’t old by my standards. I think you’re right about there not being some sort of a quiz about their stops along the way. I bet every team was keeping a notebook.

This is actually the best Rachel has ever been. On her other two races she was rude, obnoxious and far more of a screamer and cryer. I think Brendan did a good job keeping her in hand until the last leg. He is a good sport with the Brenchel garb he wore.

Back is better today than it has been so I didn’t do anything figuring I’d give it another day of rest. Tomorrow I definitely have to go to the dump and the animal food store.
