15 Comments on “Trains and Boats and Planes: Billy J Kramer & The Dakotas”
Not trying to be a smarty-pants, Kat, but Billy J. Kramer & the Dakotas ‘Trains and Boats and Planes’ debuted October 7/65 and reached #10 on Billboard’s chart, while Dionne’s version debuted on February 7/66 and made it to #22. It’s funny, because I also remember her version best but don’t remember hearing Kramer’s.
Gnu,
Having never heard of him, I was surprised to find it was written, composed and released first by him. Come to find out the title is from a book called The Games People Play: The Basic Handbook of Transactional Analysis.
Gnu,
You are on a who is that singer named Billy kick for me. You found yet another I haven’t ever heard of. I can’t believe that tie. The shirt I know was, at one time, the fashion, but how long is that tie?

Spaceman,
Not that I know. Dionne Warwick comes to mind as she released it first.

Ya, but a bit surprised. I could see folkies doing this song. Closest I could find

Spaceman,
I always think of her as a country singer but I get why this is the closest you could find.

Marie,
I never mind a correction. I just assumed she did because that’s the first one I heard.
It must have been the radio station I listened to which favored Dionne Warwick over Billy.

Never heard this one by Billy. He reminds me of a one time hit type.
Kind of like Joe South

Gnu,
I am amazed I hadn’t ever heard of him until now. I like his voice, and I can’t imagine why I didn’t hear him on the radio.

Gnu,
He does a great job with this song. I went hunting again and found out Joe South wrote this. I continue to be amazed by Je South.
