“I am content; that is a blessing greater than riches; and he to whom that is given need ask no more.”
Today is lovely. The sun is brilliant and the sky a deep blue. It is 53˚. Today is Patriot’s Day in Massachusetts. The day commemorates the first battles of the Revolutionary War in Lexington and Concord. Today is the running of the Boston Marathon. Yesterday was the one year anniversary of the bombings. This year’s race has already started. All of the runners are on their way to Boston. The Red Sox are playing the Orioles, and that game has started. On Patriot’s Day the game starts at the odd hour of eleven. Today the Sox are wearing home jerseys which say Boston, instead of Red Sox to honor the city and the day.
Nothing is on my dance card for the rest of today. When I woke up this morning, I stayed in bed and read for a while. I finally got out of bed, put the coffee on and went out to fill the bird feeders. I was reading the papers when the phone rang. It was my friend waiting for me at the diner. I had totally forgotten our usual Monday breakfast. We rescheduled for tomorrow.
Dinner yesterday was wonderful. We got one of our favorite tables on the porch next to the wall of windows. I could see the small crests of the waves glinting in the sun as they rolled to shore. The water was calm. It was warm beside the window. I was glad for the short sleeve dress I had worn. The waiter told us to keep an eye on the line of scrub bushes on the sand as a mother fox lived there with her kits. We kept watch but didn’t see them. We each ordered a drink and shared truffle fries. We toasted the day and chatted a while before we ordered dinner. The restaurant was filled but not noisy. Men wore jackets and women were dressy. It is that sort of a restaurant. I had a flat iron steak, smashed potatoes and asparagus for dinner. The meal was delicious. I couldn’t eat dessert, but I topped off the dinner with a laced coffee sugared around the rim. When I got home, I let Gracie out, went upstairs to change then decided I really needed a nap. I slept for a couple of hours. It was the deep sleep of the contented.

Windy but warm and sunny over here, a bit over 62F so I can’t complain about the weather this Easter. The kitchen door has stayed open almost all day and my dogs have walked in and out as they pleased and none took a walk by themselves 🙂 I guess the cows just outside the fence helped me with that 🙂
Your dinner do sound delicious, I myself had pancakes today, the only dinner I really had all Easter, I don’t count warm sandwiches as dinner but they are easy to do 🙂 I’m baking one big scones right now, The dough is so sticky that I didn’t want to make four smaller ones 🙂 I hope it works because I really feel like having warm scones with butter and cheese.
No nap today, I need to feel sleepy early tonight since it’s a work day tomorrow. The long nap I had yesterday really messed up the entire day 🙂
Have a great last day of Easter!
Christer.

Hi Christer,
No complaining when the temperature is that high! Gracie gets to walk in and out all the time when the inside door is open as the outside door ahs a dog door for her to use. Gracie would be gone if I didn’t have a fence in my yard.
You make me jealous. I love warm scones and butter; however, I am not a pancake fan at all. I think it is the consistency.
No nap for me either today. Mine was quite late yesterday which also messed up my going to bed. It was close to 2 am.
Have a wonderful day!

I have to admit that making one big scone was far from my best idea in life 🙂 It’s edible but nothing more 🙂
The European pancakes are different in consistency, I like the American too but do prefer our own.

Christer,
You did what you could. Sticky dough just isn’t easy to work with.

Hi Kat,
Yesterday was good. Good food, good company, good weather.
We had ham and smashed potatoes with other sides. Dessert was little mousse things which were rich and tasty.
I’m watching the race right now. My friend Lisa is running. I keep checking her bib number but she hasn’t shown up yet. She was in the 4th wave so I expect she will show up late.
I got up this morning, went to the garage to make appointments for the jeep to be fixed and inspected. I came back and took Rocky for a walk, cooked, swept the rug and the outside stairs and clipped some bits of grass. Much too much grown-up activity on my part, I think. Time to goof off for a bit.
Enjoy the day.

Hi Caryn,
I am going back and forth between the race and the baseball game. I used to work the water station at mile 23. The elite runners ran by and then the good runners and finally the walkers. We cheered them as they only had 3 + miles left.
You are most productive today. I have stuff I could do but I’ll put them off until tomorrow. I am just not in an industrious mood. I haven’t even gotten dressed today!
Have a wonderfully relaxing afternoon.

Dressy women and a flat iron steak. A priceless word combination for someone like me who isn’t familiar with beef talk 🙂

Birgit,
Flat iron steaks are actually fairly new on menus here. They aren’t as expensive as filet mignon which I really don’t like too much. I’m a rib eye fan, but they don’t appear at pricey restaurants.
Dressy women too is not a phrase I use much.

I can’t remember which part of the steer the flat iron steak comes. I am a filet fan myself or prime rib. I like the rib meat roasted rather than grilled. In NJ they call the ribeye a Delmonico steak. The best steak I ever ate was not here in Texas but outside of Sioux City Iowa. The restaurant was outside of town in an auction barn. Beef fed on corn has a wonderful flavor and was so tender my prime rib could be cut with a fork.
When I go to a steak place I order rack of lamb if it’s on the menu. My spouse hates lamb and the only time I get it is when I travel or we are eating out in a nice restaurant.
I’m glad that everything went well with the Boston Marathon today. Any spring day in Fenway Park is a holiday. Regardless which team you like everyone in Fenway is a Red Sox fan, even some Yankee fans.
Today the temperature was in the lower 80s with partly cloudy skies and scattered thunderstorms. It’s spring time in the southern end of tornado alley.

Bob,
I didn’t know the rib eye is also called a Delmonico. I agree about corn fed beef being so tender.
I love lamb too. I sometimes order it when I’m out, but I also serve it when I invite a couple of friends who also like lamb. I don’t have it often enough. With a lemon butter basting, a barbecue lamb is delicious.
It was a great day today in Boston. Meb Keflezighi won the race and became the first American male to win the Boston Marathon since 1983.
We stayed in the 50’s all day. It was a bit chilly but still nice and sunny.
