It’s easier to put on slippers than to carpet the whole world.

The day is bright and sunny and framed by a clear blue sky. It is a bit chilly but I don’t care. It’s the sun that matters.

Today is a stay home day, a day for the mundane. The wash sits in the hall waiting to go down stairs, the watering can for the plants is on the counter, the litter is by the door where the litter boxes are and the clean sheets are by the bed. I’ll stay in my grubbies all day. It’s that sort of a day.

I forgot to switch from slippers to shoes when I went out the other day. My slippers are a bit worse for wear. Each one has a hole in the toe, the right slipper’s hole being much larger. They fit fine so I don’t know why the holes. I figured it is old lady syndrome though I really don’t think of myself as an old lady. I remember my grandmother wearing her house dress covered by an apron and wearing slippers with the backs down and stockings rolled around her ankles. My other grandmother would never have worn slippers or had stockings rolled around her ankles. She also wore a fancier dress usually flowered, never a house dress, and she smelled like lilacs. This grandmother was not my favorite. My other grandmother always had spaghetti on the stove and cheese you had to grate yourself on the table. She had eight kids and six of the eight were married, and we were all there every holiday to visit, cousins galore. My grandmother had chocolate bunnies for us each Easter and a present every Christmas. My grandfather hid in his bedroom from all the bedlam, but he used to give us dimes if we dropped into say hello. He kept a pile of them on the table beside his bed. My other grandfather was an imposing figure with whom we had little interaction. He was not a favorite either.  It was the slippers which brought all this to mind.

The Bengals play two and walk off twice. Just the Detroit Tigers being the Tigers. Its raining so I don’t know if they will get the game in today

Meanwhile Big Puffy asks The President of the United States of America for a selfie and it turns out that he has a contract with Samsung and it shows up like some Ellen Ad. Big Puffy sucks.

Growing up I loved the song “Whip crack away”, which was really “The Deadwood Stage” Wiki says that Doris Day is 92 today, other sources say that she is 90 today. The Football Fans chant “Que Sera Sera, whatever will be will be …we’re going to WEMBLEY…que sera sera”. Happy Birthday Doris Day

This time next week, I will be pursing the high speed Prince around the Magic Kingdom, and Mick may or may not be under his arm. One of our friends needs an Olaf, her son has written to the Easter Bunny asking for Olaf and its the only thing that he wants. No pressure to find Olaf.

      My Dear Hedley,
I too found the Ortiz selfie repugnant when I read of his deal with Samsung. Actually, I find most selfies repugnant!

Last game in Baltimore then my boys of summer will open tomorrow at home and get their rings. My friends and I will watch together; we always do.

Okay, I don’t know what an Olaf is. Perhaps my not knowing too many 7 year olds is the reason. My nephew’s son, my grand-nephew, is 7 but I seldom make it to Colorado. Who or what is Olaf?

I hope you have planned a few nap days into your schedule next week!

Olaf – Olaf is the snowman in “Frozen” who along with Sven the Reindeer provides lots of humor, it is a wonderful movie and worth your time to rent.

The Prince and I have had a very heated debate over who is cooler , Olaf (The Prince) or Sven (Pumpa). There have been numerous viewings of “Frozen” but neither of us are willing to change our position.

There will be little time for napping as we blast through the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom and then head home. Mrs MDH and I have a date with Emmylou Harris on Monday night, so a very full week ahead

      • katry's avatar katry Says:

        Thank you, MDH!

I will give it a watch when it hits On Demand. The clips I’ve seen have been clever.

Wow, you do have a full schedule. I admire your energy!

I do like the new header!

I can’t remember any of my grandmothers having stockings rolled around their ancles but none of them were fansy 🙂 I rarely met my grandmother on my fathers side but met my grandmother on my mothers side at least once a week. There was always food on the table and coffe in the pot 🙂 She always wore pants unless it was an important occasion. Lilac was her favorite color and she wore it as often as she could 🙂 I do miss her a lot.

Bitterly cold during nights but so warm and nice during days here that a jacket is unnecessary. No more explosions in the village but the entire bog smelled of forest fire tonight, I hope it is on the other side of the bog and that it bwon’t spread over to this side.

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Christer,
I’m glad you do. It was nice of Morpfy to send it to me.

I don’t think either of my grandmothers ever wore pants the whole of their lives. Women of their time didn’t so they never did. My father’s parents were the ones we didn’t like all that much. My mother’s mother we all liked.

I love the smell of fireplace fires on a winter’s night. The air is filled with the aroma. We are around 45˚ today bit the wind makes it feel chilly.

      Have a great evening!

I usually don’t wear slippers at home. Socks in winter, nothing in summer. Today was the first barefoot day. Welcome summer 🙂

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Birgit,
If it is cold enough, I even wear socks under my slippers. I don’t wear just socks as I’d most definitely slide and fall, such is my luck.

Summer? I am so envious. I just want a day as warm s the 50’s, and it will feel like summer to me.

  4. Lori Kossowsky's avatar Lori Kossowsky Says:

    Hi Kat,
I usually wear warm mismatched socks at home. The day is sunny but cool. My back is healing, and 6 weeks cooped up in my apt. I want to fly out of here. I do like your new heading. Tomorrow is a West coast reunion from the college I attended..

One woman everyone was excited to see, as she was battling cancer, and seemed to be in a remission had a massive stroke and died April 1st. She lived about an hour away from me, and we had planned to meet earlier in the year, but we had to cancel our plans. We are all taking this news very hard.

    Sad Waves,
    Lori and the Crew.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Hi Lori,
I’m sorry about your friend and sorry you didn’t get a chance to see her.

I don’t have any mismatched socks. Most of the time I throw the odd one away as they all usually have holes. My socks are best hidden in my shoes!!

      Waving back,
      All of us

    I feel like giving Lori a hug…

My mom’s mom is the only grandma I remember…she, my mom, and myself all lived together after my dad died. She was born in County Roscomon and made the best damned Irish bread I ever ate…all the other grandparents I only knew through stories….

My Mets are 0-3. I am watching your Sox beat the Orioles. I think you will have a much better year than me.

    Waving from Jersey…

    Coleen

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Coleen,
Poor Lori has hard a tough time of it. She did something to her back which is why she has been cooped at for a while. Now her friend passes. She could use a good hug.

My mother’s parents were the best. My father’s parents were a bit cold. We didn’t visit them as often as the other grandparents even though we lived in the same town. The kitchen at my grandparents’ house, the ones we liked, was where everyone congregated, and the pan of spaghetti was like the loaves and fishes-it lasted all day.

It is now 4-3 and the Orioles are breathing down the necks of the Sox. It is only the top of the 7th.The Sox are 1 and 1. I like the Mets and wish them a good year.

      Waving from Cape Cod!!

Thanks for reminding me of my grandmothers… Grandmas in our house. Grandma Kush would have been around 60 here while Grandma Connell would have been about 80. A huge difference due to my mother being the oldest and my father being the baby. I loved them both but related more with the ‘younger’ of the two who lived in our town while the other lived south of Chicago.
Grandpa…. I wished he lived another year so when I got out of the Army I could have gone down the street to his favorite haunt and had a beer or two with him.
Dad, he always wore his slippers

    • john's avatar john Says:

      foto link?

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      You are welcome, John.

My mother’s family had eight kid and nothing bothered my grandmother. She just went with the flow. She lived in East Boston, the big city to me. My mother was third of eight and had a sister, number 8, younger than I.

My other grandparents’s we saw at most of the holidays, at their house, never ours.

My dad always wore moccasin slippers.

  7. flyboybob's avatar flyboybob Says:

Both of my sets of grandparents came here from Eastern Europe around 1905. My maternal grandmother always wore an apron and spent most of her day at the kitchen table preparing food. She was a wonderful cook and a fabulous baker. My other grandmother didn’t spend as much time in the kitchen and visiting her usually didn’t include a home cooked meal.

Today was warm and humid and we are getting a shot of severe weather in the towns just north of the Dallas area. This is the time of the year when the giant super cells can spawn tornados and up to baseball size hail.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Bob,
Funny what we most remember about outré grandparents. Food seems to be part of the memories.

We have never had hail that large. We have had pea size but not very often. My sister in Colorado got 10 inches of snow last night. Today it was warm: crazy weather.

WE didn’t hit 50˚, close but no cigar!

  8. Mark's avatar Mark Says:

I was only close to one grandmother, she was on my mothers side. I never remember her wearing trousers. She had a rather grand house and always had slippers or indoor shoes on. She always made me wear slippers and kept a pair at her house for me. I knew to always take off my shoes at the door, She had a baking day, a wash day and kept a mangle in the cellar. She always refused to have a fridge because she said her marble slab in the cellar was good enough to keep food fresh. She made her own pickles, marvellous pickles and the xmas cake was made in September and then left to improve. I have so many fond memories of my grandmother. I still miss her and I don’t miss my mother

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Mark,
Your grandmother and mine must be related. She was also on my mother’s side. I don’t remember what else she may have cooked. The spaghetti was to feed the crowd of us who visited. I loved she always had something for each of us, and I have a slew of cousins on that side of the family.

My mother was amazing, and I miss her every day.

      • Mark's avatar Mark Says:

My Grandmothers house always seemed like a lovely retreat from home. Mum was very strict so spending the weekend at grans was such a relief for me.

      • katry's avatar katry Says:

        Mark,
Grandmothers always seemed to allow so much more than mothers. I figure mine raised 8 kids and was willing to look the other way. We, though, were good at my grandmother’s. MY mother was a casual disciplinarian.

  9. Mark's avatar Mark Says:

I grew up in the 60s and 70s when parents were much stricter. Saying that my gran was born at turn of the 20th century and she was comparatively liberal. Saying that, I knew that there was a line not to cross with her.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Mark,
My dad was the scarier parent. My mother was the liberal. Our closest grandparents, not too far from us, were not the sort you visited unless you were forced at holidays. They were cold people.
