“Springtime is the land awakening. The March winds are the morning yawn.”

A sunny day with a blue sky and warm temperatures almost makes me wonder if I’m delusional. My mind is having trouble wrapping around this change in weather. It’s hard to believe, I know, but it is actually above freezing and will get to the 40’s today. The sides of my street are a stream of water from the melting plow piles. My birdseed barrel is no longer frozen to the deck. My front lawn is snowless. I wore my slippers to get the papers, and my socks didn’t get wet. My mouth is agape.

My furnace needed a new blower motor. It was around 62หš in here by the time it was fixed, but it didn’t take long for the house to be warm and cozy again. The furnace even blows more quietly now. The bill will be in the mail.

When we’d have a string of warm days, I’d start riding my bike to school. It was mostly downhill in the morning until the straightaway which led directlyย to school. The bike rack was in the schoolyard under the trees. It was made of wood and painted green. We never used locks, and I don’t remember anyone ever having a bike stolen. The ride home was uphill, and by the time I was halfway up the hill by my house, I was walking my bike. It was early in the season, and my legs weren’t hill ready yet. They wouldn’t be until closer to summer when I would alwaysย ride all the way up the big hill and never think of stopping.

A day like today meant putting the winter coat, the hat, the mittens and the scarf away even if only for this one day. It was a wonderful freedom of movement. I loved my spring jackets. They were always light colors, usually pastels. I’d wear a sweater underneath until it got warm enough for just the jacket, for when spring was in full bloom.

In the spring I always felt like skipping. Walking wasn’t joyous enough.

The joys of home ownership, repairs ๐Ÿ™‚

Most buildings in this country are designed for a thirty year life span according to a discussion I heard on NPR. Unfortunately, the repair bills mount up as the structure ages. Last summer I replaced one of my two central air conditioner units. The previous unit only lasted ten years. My AC guy told me that new air conditioning units have built in obsolescence of about ten years just as their compressor warranty expires ๐Ÿ™‚

Regardless of the weather I know that summer is just around the corner because tonight we all lose an hour of sleep as we spring our clocks ahead to daylight savings time. Our friends in Arizona and Hawaii don’t participate in this spring ritual so I don’t know how they remember to change the battery in their smoke detectors? ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Today is cloudy with a fifty percent chance of rain and temperatures in the 50s. Hopefully, the last freeze is over for the year.

      Bob,
I know. First it’s one thing or another. The furnace is only 10 years old but the heating guy told me the blown fan is not unusual.

About five years ago I did a redo of the house: new double-pane windows, brick walk, landscaping, the roof, the shingles on three sides of the house, siding on the from, new smoke detector, the deck, fenced in the yard, granite counter, tile floors in both bathrooms and the kitchen, refaced the kitchen cabinets, added a built-in kitchen bookcase and had all the room repined. I broke the bank on these, but I figure I’m good for a while.

Sticky notes to let them know!

Everyone should move every ten years to de-crap your house of your stuff. When you did your redo, did you get rid of a lot of old useless stuff? George Carlin did a comedy bit called a place for your stuff. Just when you think you need to buy more stuff just think of this:

        Bob,
I own my house now, and I wouldn’t choose to move. I have great neighbors and this is a nice neighborhood.

It’s true that I do have too much stuff, but I am now careful about not buying stuff unless I travel, and then I do bring home some more stuff.

When I travel I do bring less stuff!

Thanks for George. I have always enjoyed him.

    Hi Kat,
Rocky and I have already been outside sunning ourselves on the top step. It was quite warm. I thought I might need to change into shorts and a t-shirt. ๐Ÿ˜€ He fell asleep in a sunny spot on the door mat.
I still have a yard covered in a considerable amount of snow but it’s melting away. The stuff that is bare is muddy. There will be much clean up to do in the dog yard as the hidden treasures become visible. ๐Ÿ™‚
We are off to do some driving around in the good weather and maybe a bit of walking around, too.
    Enjoy the sun and warmth.

      Hi Caryn,
I was out on the porch for a while with Gracie who has been out most of the day. I have to do a couple of errands in a bit so I can take in more of the day.

Hardly any snow here is left as we have been above freezing the last few days.

Gracie will have her head out the window on a day like today!

      Happy motoring!

We went to the beach! Plum Island. It was covered in Birdwatchers. ๐Ÿ™‚ The Snowy Owls must still be in residence. Rocky and I did not stop to look for them as I had no binoculars and he had no interest.
Rocky is a Watching Dog and does not care to have his head sticking out the window. He rides shotgun up on the console. Air from the vents will bring him all the smells he needs.

        Caryn,
I haven’t been to Plum Island in eons. We too have snowy owls. They are at West Dennis beach.

Gracie is also a console dog but mostly when she wants patting. She puts her head on my cheek as a signal. I obey.

Almost as warm here today as it was yesterday and the sun shone all day. Unfortunately the wind blew hard most of the day too but it was still rather nice. I even worked some in my garden, I used an ax to prune some lilacs that have grown too big. Later on I’ll make it look a bit better, an ax is a crude instrument to work with ๐Ÿ™‚

It was a fairly flat area I grew up in and the small hills we had around weren’t too hard to bike up on so I rarely had to jump off anf walk up. My best friend lived on the only hill high enough to be hard to bike upwards on though but I really couldn’t stop and walk uphills just in case he would look out the window when I came ๐Ÿ™‚ I remember how I thought I would die on the way up ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s fun how we get used to sounds, just by changing a motor or fan to a more quiet one can make us realize that the old one actually was quite noisy ๐Ÿ™‚

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

      Christer,
This time I can say we have weather similar to yours so I don’t have to be jealous, at least today!

We lived on a big hill which was steep as you rode up to where my house was. I don’t remember too any other steep hills. Most were graded. I loved going down those hills!

It’s true. I never noticed the noise the blower made. It’s the same with an outside noise. Once I get used to it, I don’t here unless it stops then I notice the difference.

      Have a wonderful Saturday!

    Hi Kat,
I’ve finally lived here 10 years. Now I want to get rid of my stuff. Carlin had me giggling. I have toooooo much stuff. I’m still flat on my back in pain, so will have to see next week what can be done about it. I used to be a avid bike rider, but in my old age, since I broke my knee, my body refused to re-learn bike riding. If I could ride a bike, this appeals to me:

      Lori,
That was wonderful. I love flash mobs and have always wished one would happen around me. This one was special with the bikes.

I have lived here 37 years. I have stuff and more stuff.

I used to bike ride all the time as we have a wonderful bike trail, and I have done it all the way to P-Town a few times.

      Thanks for this!
