Kat,
I love this song. The girl’s sentiments were not what we were used to hearing from pop songs at that time, and it would be almost two years before Nancy Sinatra’s boots would stomp all over her guy.
Interesting to see what shared the charts!
(I think there’s a song on my old site that you might enjoy.)

You are right-I like Low Down Gal Blues!
Poor Lesley Gore lost her guy at her own party! I think in the 60’s female singers started to take the upper hand, and this was among the first. I love all her don’t. That guy didn’t have a chance.
