“Christmas is doing a little something extra nice for someone.”

The morning is freezing cold. A dusting fell overnight but not enough to call this a white Christmas. The diner was filled this morning.  There was even a line.  My friend gave me two hats for my collection as my Christmas presents. One is a simple black hat perfect for a day in the city or even a funeral. The second came from Russia and is made of white fur. It is the sort of hat I remember seeing soldiers wear but far fancier. It has ear flaps. When I put it on, people smiled and the booths near us chatted with us. It is, without question, a conversation starter.

I hope Santa was good to all of you, and I wish you the Merriest of Christmas Days.

A light shall shine upon us this day: for the Lord is born to us: and He shall be called Wonderful, God, the Prince of Peace, the Father of the world to come: of whose reign there shall be no end.

No white Christmas here, only sunshine and moderate temperatures. Have a great Christmas Day wherever you may be! Tomorrow will be another busy day in retail as people rush out to either buy the bigger bargains or redeem their gift cards. At least we have one day of rest from the shopping madness. 🙂

      Bob,
It is freezing here with snow flurries every now and then. They don’t amount to anything, and I guess they look festive.

I am never part of that madness so the day means nothing to me.

No white Christmas here either, stormy and rainy and that’s good enough for me even if it woukld be nice if the wind could stop blowing for at least a whole day 🙂

    Have a Good Yule!
    Christer.

      Christer,
The snow showers have stopped, but it is just too cold to be out. Gracie finds the couch the best spot today.

Enjoy the day and Good Yule!

I think Santa’s sleigh ran over me. I’m not used to being around a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old any day, much less on Christmas Eve!!! And now to do it all over again today… with traditional Texas tamales on the menu (hope Santa left some heartburn pills in my stocking!). Hope everyone got what they wanted for Christmas!

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      im6,
I too would not be used to being around toddlers. Dogs, yes, but not kids. My sister in Colorado had tamales for Christmas Eve and saved some for today. They also had smoked ribs. Sounds like a great menu to me.

I got exactly what I asked for and more!

Snow, snow snow. We are waiting for the sled (ok Jeep) to bring the 7 year old. There are no shortage of gifts to entertain him. No Johnny Seven BUT the scalextric is waiting.

    Merry Christmas everyone.

      My Dear Hedley,
I’d have accepted sled! I hope you have the most wonderful afternoon with the Prince.

      Happy Christmas, MDH!

I was too early when I sent my Christmas greetings last night. (Cultural differences or just too much egg liqueur?) I should have expected a post on this particular Wednesday.
So again, today waving with my hand-sewed Santa-style hat made of white and fake-leopard fur, that makes people either smile or look like I’m too crazy for this world:
Merry Christmas – Happy Christmas – God jul – Enjoy the Holidays – Happy belated Festivus – Barka da Kirsimatikuma – a cheerful Christmas – Fröhliche Weihnachten – (insert your greeting) -> to you all!
I should add “Merry Chroistmas” according to your tags 😉

      Birgit,
Christmas greetings can be whenever in the spirit of the season.

I think that your Santa hat sounds perfect. I figure a touch of individuality is just what Santa’s ensemble needs!

      Fröhliche Weihnachten and Merry Christmas!

Hi Kat and all of the coffee crowd,

I’m down at the ocean in North Carolina (my favourite place) and haven’t been able to get internet access until just now. I don’t know how long it will last so I’ll be brief. I’m sorry to be traveling this year because I missed the great ice storm which hit T.O.

I feel as if I know some of you just from reading your comments here on Coffee – especially Kat, of course, but im6, Birgit, Caryn, Hedley, Bob and Christer.

    im6,

I saw your comment, but couldn’t respond before this. I’ve obviously misunderstood the humour around here, but think I’m finally catching on.

    Caryn,

You mentioned hoping to find Egg Nog in glass bottles at your local Whole Foods. I spotted it in Virginia, so hope you were able to pick some up.

I hope all of you have a very happy Christmas and experience peace and joy throughout the New Year!

    Marie

      Merry Christmas Marie,
Here you’d just have had cold and a few snow showers. It makes staying inside warm and cozy the perfect way to spend the day.

We have become a family here on Coffee, and we re happy to add new members. We love to tease each under and sarcasm sometimes rears its head. Nothing is ever intended but good fun. Welcome to the family!

I have bought 2 bottles of egg nog at a local store but it’s from a farm in Milton. They ever still deliver glass bottles to doorsteps. Such a throwback to my childhood!

      Have a wonderful Christmas!

    Hi Kat,
Aah, I have Christmas present envy for your white fur hat. I so want one of those.

I needed it this morning. Rocky and I have a Christmas morning tradition where we go to Newburyport harbor. He sniffs and pees on all the things and I take photos of the fishing boat Early Times in her berth at the wharf. She’s usually encased in ice and today was no exception. It was colder than midnight on Pluto. I took a photo of my shadow waving back at me from its cast position on a passing ice floe. Colder than midnight on PLUTO! 🙂
No other people or dogs were there that early but a few showed up just before we left. All were friendly and gave us a greeting.

We came home, I had hot coffee and junk food and Rocky got an egg and dog kibble omelet. We are warm and fed and lounging now.

I wish you a warm and Merry Christmas.
    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
That hat is fantastic. I can’t wait to wear it somewhere.

When I went out to breakfast, Gracie came but she was wrapped in her Pendleton coat. She got bacon as a Christmas treat when I got back to the car. It is freezing cold here too. Just going from the car to the restaurant and back was enough to want hearth and home.

Gracie is napping, and I am watching Christmas movies. The roast is cooking, and the house smells great!

I wish you all the wonders the season brings!
