“I’m thankful for every moment.”
Thanksgiving is the least adorned holiday of them all. We don’t buy each other presents or decorate the house. There are no new outfits in spring colors. The highlight of the day is dinner and being together around the table as a family related by blood or friendship. Of all the holidays, it is the one in which we share so much in common. Traditional dishes unique to each family are served but so are turkey and mashed potatoes, stuffing and gravy and all those pies. It is the time for us to remember the people we love who are no longer with us and to appreciate the ones who are. We give thanks for the good in our lives, the food on our tables and the glory of every day. We talk together and laugh together at dinner. We pass the rolls, the green bean casserole and the canned cranberry sauce with the ribbing. We eat until we can eat no more, but we leave plenty of leftovers. They are one of the best parts of thanksgiving. We finish by doing some cleaning up then relaxing in the living room until we have some room for dessert.
On Thanksgiving my sisters, who live far away, and I are connected not just by family but also by tradition: by my mother’s squash dish, a recipe she got from her sister, which was on our Thanksgiving table very year. It was passed to us and now had passed to a third generation. My mother’s recipe for stuffing fills all our turkeys. As for the pies: my mother made apple pie for my father. He always ate it with a slab of cheddar. The Lemon meringue was my favorite. Blueberry rounded out the pie selection.
I have baked my traditional offering: a chocolate cream pie, requested every year. Coincidentally my sister made one. It is not uncommon we are in the same wave length.
This morning I will watch the parade, the same as I have done as long I can remember. I’ll talk to my sisters to wish them a Happy Thanksgiving. I won’t dress fancy for Thanksgiving, none of us really do. I’ll sit with my friends and enjoy every part of the day. I am thankful for the life I have been lucky enough to live, for the people I love and the people who love me.

Happy Thanksgiving from the North Country. We will have 13-14 for dinner later–Peg has been cooking for days. She says it is a lot of work but I think she actually loves it. I told her it is hard work just for me to watch her cook–she has no idea….

I used to wear myself out cooking and baking, but I too loved it though there were never as many people.
I can’t wait until you visit! Either time is fine though after the holidays might be a bit better as I won’t have lists of stuff to do.

Thaksgiving is not a holiday for my family. Most of them hate each other and tries their best to avoid ever meeting anyone else in the family, ever 🙂 🙂 There was almost a fight the day my grandmother died 🙂
I wouldn’t mind the food though, right now it would be nice with some apple pie 🙂

That’s horrible! Even though my brother and I used to fight we managed to behave on the holidays. Today we would have been watching the parade and having a great time. The house would be filled with best smell of the turkey cooking.

Why should we have to spend time with family members we hate? The only thing we may have in common with them is shared DNA. Spend the time with friends instead of family if your family members don’t like each other. Be thankful for the good things we all have including the freedom to not see or speak to the relatives you don’t like.

And through the sleet and snow we travelled down I94 to join family in Chicago. Matthew Stafford is about ready to sling the ball at Calvin and SUH will stuff Flynn. I have been walking to prepare for a full attack on the turkey after the match

I wish a wonderful Thanksgiving day to everyone. Although the Holiday has it’s roots in religion, it’s a totally sectarian Holiday that people everywhere can celebrate in their own way. Ours is the Macy’s parade, football and Chinese buffet with Turkey and stuffing.
And with a little luck maybe the Cowboys might figure out how to win two games in a row. 🙂

I thought it had its roots on Plymouth and was for giving thanks for the harvest. The religion part was they had left Europe for religious freedom, but I don’t believe it was a a part of the feast, not with the Indians as guests.
It is the holiday when we all share more traditions than at any other holiday.

Actually you are correct for the modern Thanksgiving. However, the Puritans were strong believers in the Old Testament and a harvest thanksgiving is very similar idea as the Jewish holiday of Sukkoth.
The Chinese buffet had all the Thanksgiving food except cranberry sauce. I basically stayed with the Chinese fare.

I’m late, but wanted to say hi and that I hope you had a good Thanksgiving. The day left me fat and happy and very, very sleepy. Amazing how tired you can get doing nothing! Seemed wrong, however, to not stop by and wish KTCC the best and thank you for being such a good friend. Now I have to try to keep my ears and mind open a bit longer to pay close attention to that Stephen Kellogg song. Initial reaction is that it’s amazing. The holiday season has begun!
