It’s great!! This version, though, was Ellie’s first hit.
Ellie Greenwich and her then-husband/writer Jeff Barry were amazing. So many hit songs came from their pens at the Brill Building.
I loved that she played the accordion!

There are a few versions of La Bamba that I like including the version by Ritchie Valens, Jesse Lopez (Brother of Trini Lopez) and of course Trini.

You know, for an unpardonable number of years, I had no idea what the words to the chorus of La Bamba were. Ba Da Ba Da Ba La Bamba was all I got.
I had to listen to a lot of Salsa and learn a little Spanish before it all became clear.

I knew what some of the words meant but not all of them. I knew it had to do with dancing but not how it did.
Eventually I did look up the words I didn’t know though I had some trouble with the spelling (no computer to help!).
