For the Roses: Joni Mitchell
Joni Mitchell has been a favorite of mine for so long that when I hear the first few notes of any song it’s like coming home.

Yes, definitely feels like home, though I have moved away from home (musically speaking) in the last years. It’s more like a pleasant childhood home, revisited once in a while. But then I stumble upon songs like this gorgeous live version of one of my old favorites “I think I understand” and the former fascination is back immediately.

Birgit,
Joni was one of the cassettes I had in Africa, and I listened to it so many times it had to be rewound with a Bib pen.
Thanks for the great new site. I hadn’t heard Joni’s intro and reason for writing the song before listening.

greg,
You are most welcome.
I Think I understand was one of the sounds to which I listened more times than I can remember. My version was on the album Clouds.

One of my very favorites..a friend from my youth just contacted me via Facebook, about Joni. He remembers I “turned” him on to her music in my “den of iniquity” in my private room in the downstairs of our home. I think I mentioned I did see her once in Carnegie Hall. I don’t even know which is my favorite record, I love them all in different ways.
Waving,
Lori

Lori,
I’d be hard-pressed to pick a music favorite but the sentimental favorite is Clouds as I listened to it just about every night in Ghana. It always brings to mind the best memories.

Cuidado, thanks for the Joni-link! Just listening, very interesting.
It may be a country restriction that I get only the audio-stream on cbc, but luckily the video is on youtube (3 parts, search “qtv Joni Mitchell”).

I hope you try the link that I placed below.

Cuidado, yes I tried -thanks for the link!- and I was surprised that it worked, despite “North American broadcast exclusive” and former negative experiences with blocked McGarrigle content on CBC.
While listening to the Joni interview I sometimes thought that she is living in her own closed world now where she made up her own truth. I don’t know how to describe it, but it reminded me of my mother who seldom left home and made up a world view that was solely based on TV.

Thanks from me too, Cuidado!
I too only get the audio stream here so I went to youtube! Thanks for that Birigit.
