Only recently I discovered this lovely song about your country, it’s one of my favorites now.
Ted and Elisabeth Hawkins: (America) You’re Beautiful To Me
You probably know it, but just in case you haven’t heard it yet:

Birgit,
I hadn’t ever heard that song before. It is exactly what I have come to believe. I was one of the anti-war protestors, picketers for the grape workers, a door-to-door worker for C.O.R.E. and a protestor again Wallace when he was running for president. I was angry at what my country was doing and worked hard for changes. Over time I saw changes and came to love being an America, one who took pride even in America’s stumbles because they were in good faith, not for personal gain. Every 4th of July I proudly wave the flag. It took a while for me to get there, but I did.
